Snow/Ice prohibiting shift into park?

The other day after driving at normal speed through ice/water/snow, I stopped and the shifter wouldn't go into park..........and just barely into Reverse or Neutral.

After idling for a few minutes and gently working it back and forth it went into park.

So..........Is it possible that snow/ice......whatever got up into the shifter linkage ???

I live in a fairly mild area of the U.S. and I can't imagine people putting up with this problem in the Midwest.

Ideas ?

I live in Canada and have not had that problem at all!

Doesn't sound normal to me. Monitor it and if it happens again, off to the dealer you go.

Midwest? I live in Northern New England and haven't encountered the same.

I live in Buffalo, NY and never had this issue. I assume you had your foot on the brake pushing it all the way down while trying to shift. My guess is it is not related to snow/ice; probably mechanical.

OK, I went to the dealer after the fact. Dealer said that indeed they had several reports of the same issue, in fact the same time period that we had some heavy wet snow. They attributed it to linkage.

That seems pretty weird to me.

I'll have to wait for it to happen again, but it's always nice to ask the folks on this forum.

Thanks

And "linkage" sounds like the usual crap answer.

I would guess humididty is working on a weak solenoid or electrical contact. Snow is not the culprit...all modern cars can handle snow.

That's a load of cr*p. It's a Jeep. They are made for winter.
