WJ Coolant Leak, and other issues

Okay, if anyone has followed my build... more like rebuild... then you probably know i still have yet to actually drive my Jeep. The other day, i noticed a coolant leak. Its been sitting after i just rebuild it and fixed the running issue, so i like to start it and drive it around the block of my rather rural area. I started it the other day, raised the idle since i couldnt drive it, it got really hot really quick. but not over 210 so i wasnt worried. then i shut it off, and heard a boiling sound. i looked, there was coolant on the exhaust manifold right by the stud in the front of the manifold (the one that goes through the manifold). anyone got an idea? ive done a head gasket and new head bolts twice...

also, when the motor is cold, it idles just a slight bit rough until it warms up. normal i suppose?

when the motor is running, and i tap the throttle real fast, it bogs down and hesitates... any ideas?

A slight rough idle when cold is ok, but combined with the hesitation on the throttle tap I would take a look at the idle air control motor. The idle passage or motor plunger might just need cleaning, or possibly the IAC is bad.

Not sure about the coolant leak, its been a while since I had a 4L and it was a ZJ. The heater core lines don't happen to run by there do they?

ill definitely look at the IAC. clean it if i can figure out how, or get a new one from work.

What exactly do you mean heater core lines? rubber hoses? no, they are on the left side, the stud is on the right. However, i googled my issue to find that someone else has had the same problem after a motor rebuild, much like me. he said that he thought the head was cracked, then later found out that the #11 head bolt that runs though a coolant passage didnt have the appropriate sealant on it. he took the one bolt out, put sealant on it, then put it back, and VIOLA! it was fixed. its just an ever so slight leak, so i think ill let it go for just a little while until i start driving it a few miles at a time, and checking it. if it gets worse, ill try his fix. i was just curious if this haa happened to anyone before on here.

Sounds like that could be the ticket on the coolant leak.

To clean the IAC, just unbolt it from the throttle body and wipe off the end with some intake cleaner, being careful not to twist it or it may break. Also, wipe out the throttle body where it fits in.

ill just wait a little on the coolant leak, its really not much at all. so ill wait and see. if i do need to re-seal that bolt, do you think it would be alright to remove the one head bolt (even though its a stretch bolt), reseal it, then re torque it?

I may get around to the IAC today, if not today, i can do it tuesday.
Thank you :)

after reading on WJJEEPS.com i have decided to wait till tuesday and take the throttle body off, and clean the entire assembly. cant hurt, right?

Definitely a good idea if it's never been done before.

im pretty certain its never been done. My Jeep was just a tad on the neglected and abuse side when i got her. im taking good care of her and fixing everything it needs. after all, its a 99. not as much resell value so i have to drive it a while to get my money out of it.

Its not a great feeling knowing you either have to keep the same vehicle for a long time, or cut a big loss on it. but, as long as she treats me well, ill have no issues with keeping her :)

Thanks, i was trying to decide what to put there, so i thought a simple little true math equation would suffice.

ive got LED Eagle Eye tail lights on order right now, ive got HID headlights, two sets of HID fog lights, and LED turn bulbs and back up bulbs ready to order also. soon im lifting it also. (i need a mix of a street look, with off road capabilities :) )

Sounds good! HID headlights with genIII projectors will probably be my next mod, assuming nothing else breaks!

ive gotta wait a little bit for Projectors... :(
theres a few pay checks im waitin on. i need to save money from each check for a couple weeks. this is definitely going to be a budget build, but not taking the cheap way out. just taking longer than id like it to.
