Another tire post

Hey guys,

I'm now getting ready to buy some new tires for my 08 overland. I'm wondering what is everyone running? I'm wanting to stay the stock size, but I'm looking at something that is going to last as I do commute everyday and it has to be good in the snow/rain etc. I don't want a true snow tire. Just a very good all season tire. I have looked at the mich latitudes and from the reviews I have read I will not be getting them. Also if anyone can help me on this other question that would be great. I have been on tire rack and 1010tire.com and they have some good deals. How does it work if you need to get warranty work done on the tires etc since they were bought offline? Thanks.

I put Michelin LTX AT2 on a durango 4 years and 50K miles ago... still round, no flat spots, no vibrations and plenty of tread left. That's the good. The bad; they made the front end feel like it wandered... the more I paid attention, the more I realized they grabbed every darn grove / repair in the road and tried to follow it... The ugly; wife got the durango in the divorce, and she wont need to buy tires for 2 more years !

That sucks that she got the truck and the new tires. Maybe they will pop on her lol. Thanks for the advice.

I've been doing some research. Last year I bought Falken WildPeak's for the wife's WK. These are the tires that kill the local Pikes Peak hill climb every year so I figure they can't be bad. After 14k miles on them, I only see minimal signs of wear and they did great on street, snow and ice. My only complaint with them is with this tire's construction and layers they are heavier than most which can dampen performance and fuel mileage.

Falken also makes the Rocky Mountain ATS in 255 65 R17 110s-OWL that should be lighter but overall the same tire. Discount Tire has them for $148 each, which is a steal since the WildPeak's set me back $1k last year. I've tried everything over the years from Goodyear MTR (too soft, wears quick) to the ProComp Mud/Xtreme series, BFG AT's, and Terra Grapplers and love the mix of performance and wear-ability with Falken.

Hope this helps, its a great tire and will be the next tire I put on my WK.

John

Why do you think the Rocky Mountains would be lighter than the WildPeaks? Aren't the RMs the same exact tire as the WP only exclusively marketed by Discount Tire?

I found some weights online for 245/65/17 A/T type tires.
Yokohama A/T: #34, Pirelli Scorpion #36, Bridgestone A/T Revo #36, Goodyear Silent Armor #37, Falken WildPeak #37.

Rob you are right on both counts, I thought I read somewhere that the WildPeaks had more sidewall layers. Funny that Discount Tire sold me the WildPeak and not the RMs.

I just put tires on mine 3 weeks ago. I went with the Cooper Discoverer AT3. Will advise on wear once I get some miles on them. I managed 46k on the Forteras that came on it.

I hated the forteras that came on mine. They sucked badly in the snow up here. I think I will be going with the Toyo cuv. Really good reviews on them. But thanks for everyone's help.
