reasonable weight to tow with 3.6 pentastar.

just got the 2012 jgc loredo x with the ORA I and 26X package. i know that they rate the V6 to 5000 pound towing capacity but do you all think its really capable of doing this often with out putting to much strain on the motor and damaging the motor in the long run? I plan on towing with the V6 probly just a small boat and a couple jet skis but i would like to know if i decide to get bigger toys. and of your expieriences would help! Thanks!

I moved from VA to MO pulling a 5500 lb trailer and mine performed wonderfully. I would say it shouldn't have a problem.

Mine handles a 2000+ lb pop-up camper in the hills of NE pretty well, but the engine is definitely being worked. If I wanted to tow over 4000 or tow something that has a high profile I'd have considered the Hemi.

yeah my thoughts to hammer, did you get the tow package offered my jeep? i didnt, i plan on getting an after market one since im guessing i could probly get one cheaper somewhere else,,, also does anyone know if the issues that the 2011 jgc were having have been resolved in the 2012 jgc? and are they still giving the touring tires as the on/off road tire?

Can't speak for the tires but our GC has the towing package. Didn't want to deal with aftermarket issues and the tow package includes the load-leveling suspension.

Not sure what other issues you are asking about. We did get the update for the shifting behavior and the accelerator dead spot problems have been minimized pretty well.

The limit is not because of strain on the motor.....it's your transmission you are worried about. I've seen several vehicles blow out trannies early because they tried towing close to their max weight capacity.

So what do you see as a comfortable margin? Guess I thought towing near capacity was OK as long as you had the proper equipment (e.g., transmission cooler) and followed the maintenance schedule for heavy use...

Plus one on the transmission. You can always monitor your transmission temperature to make sure.

You should compare the brake specs between the V8 and v6 models as well, as that is a more important issue.

the tires theyre were putting on with the ORA I were the michelin latitude touring tires and those on not on/off road tires theyre are just mediocre AT tires but they advertised they were on/off road tires, so i was just wondering if theyre were supplying a beter on/off road tire... im guessing not, i know theyre was a lot of talk of class action law suits for a bait and switch suit. would really like to have a good set of tires on my jeep that is trail rated!

I would not tow over 3500 lbs or large frontal area trailers on a regular basis with the V6. I would agree that heavier and larger frontal trailers need the Hemi and factory towing package. But I am a cautious sort...

why is the factory towing package so important? something to do with the suspension? and can i still opt to get it later on from the dealer? what is the load leveling suspension? is it stiffer in the rear of the vehicle? and does anyone know if the ORA I also includes a heavier duty transmission cooler? saw an older thread where someone posted that it did. would be nice for towing
