Kicker sub box revealed

I took apart my mopar kicker single sub box to see what was inside. Boy was I surprised at what I saw. No way this thing could be 200 watts. Tell me what you think :

That's about what I expected.

Dont get me wrong. It sounds good but I think you pay more for the plug n play aspect than actual performance. I wonder what it would sound like if I just hooked the box up to another amp and bypassed the internal amp essentially using only the box and speaker.

Do you know whet the impedance of the sub woofer is? If you do then you can... I mean you could do it without knowing, but you'd be blindly hooking it up.

All I really know is that its a dual voicecoil speaker. Being that its a Kicker its probably 2-4 ohms.

Well, if it's a dual 2 ohm and you wire it down to 1 ohm and you amplifier is not stable down to 1 ohm, then you're going to have problems. If it's a dual 4 ohm and you wire it to 8 ohms, then you're leaving a lot of power on the table as wiring it down to 2 ohm would give you a better power output. That's why it's important to know the impedance.

I have a 400 watt kicker amp which is 2 ohm stable. It all depends if its wired in series or parallel. Is there a way to check the impedance ?

You can use a digital multimeter (DMM).
