Performance

So I had my 5.7 Overland out today for the first time since I purchased it. The Jeep only has 70 klms on it, and what bothers me is that this thing is slow and the revs build so slow, I only hope it improves with more kilometres, my WK would have walked all over it when it was new.

I had the same problem when I first got my 2012 Overland Hemi. If you accelerate aggressively it will eventually get better.

Re: Performance

Well it's slow because it's only 300 some horsepower on a 5000lb SUV. Now if it was 500+HP in a 3000lb vehicle like the one in my avatar that's another story ;-)

It's just not geared that well, period. Jeep left a lot on the table with the gearing.

That's why a number of us are waiting for the 8 speed. If that doesn't significantly help, we might as well just purchase another brand with a V6. Most of these are just a quick as the hemi. By the way, Ford just announced they are putting their direct injected twin turbo V6 ecoboost in the 2013 Explorer Sport. This will provide better acceleration and better MPG than the hemi.

The 8 speed is 2 years away, I will be ready to trade by then. In the mean time I get to enjoy the 2012 which is better than anything in its category.

Amen dude. By then a tuner will have cracked the code on the Hemi too. I am as excited as the next guy about Ford finally waking up to put that motor in the Explorer however that motor will get maybe 2 MPG better hwy than the Hemi. When I put the generic tune from Super Chips on my 05 Hemi I picked up a bunch of performance and 2MPG hwy. Enjoy while you have it.

Looks like the same problem. Good Luck

Read an article about the 8 speed in the 300. The writer thought it was still geared a little high and essentially had 3 overdrives since they were so tall. I just don't get it, (I guess I do, it is about MPG) other manufactures seem to do a better job with their transmissions. Wife's 2011 V6 Sienna shifts right into the next gear/engine's sweet spot and keeps pulling hard. It is a true 6 speed. My Sequoia I traded for the Jeep seemed better spaced as well with a 5 speed. The 1-2 shift on the Jeep is about 800rpm to low into the 2nd. The 2nd and 3rd gears are two close. I know they used to be 2 and 2 prime but I guess they didn't want to actually change the ratios with the 8 speed in the future.
I do love the Jeep though. The article on the 8 speed actually made me feel better about my 2012 Overland.

Yeah, if you want a FWD car with a SUV body, I think there are plenty of other better alternatives than the troublesome exploder.
