Oil life TOO short!?

Hi guys, I recently changed my oil as per EVIC iundication. I went to a Mr. Quick's and they changed it to Penzoil synthetic 5w30. Also, they used mopar oil filter.

Now, nearly around (UPDATE: 1,000) miles after, oil change indicator returned. Anyone experienced the same? Did they do something wrong? Is this normal?

They didn't reset the oil change indicator after changing the oil.

The oil change indicator can be reset using the following steps:

1. Turn the ignition key to ON but do not start the engine.
2. Slowly depress the accelerator to the floor and release it three times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

Well, I did reset it... indicator went off after pressing 3 time accelerator... then just reappeared at about 1K miles... weird!

Oil replaced at 6464... now at 7540 oil change indicator lighted again!

I am wondering if they install the filter correctly, crappy penzoil... or if its anything else !?

They probably put used oil in or something...those quick lube places are some of the shadiest businesses in operation. Just my $.02, but I also have trust issues with a lot of businesses.

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the type of oil put in it! It sounds like it has more to do with the OCR system messing up. The computer does not no what kind of oil is put in there nor does it "anaylize" it in anyway. It takes readings of engine temp, duration engine is running, etc to determine when you need to change your oil. Your engine is designed to run on "crappy" penzoil and does not call for synthetic but you can certainly use it if you want but it has nothing to do with when the oil change light comes on. I've got over 200K on one of my trucks running plain ol' oil, just keep it changed when your supposed to and all will be well.

I don't know. Replacing fluid brands can make an auto do some strange things.

Agree the oil shouldn't be a problem... I use penzoil synthetic on my WJ without issues.... mmm, nothing is telling me I need to change my oil ...maybe the system itself is the crappy one .

Yeah you know I was thinking maybe penzoil synthetic react different to temp changes. Also, I am in the tropic and sometimes fixed viscosity work better.

I did notice something once I changed oil the first time... I heard my engine more. I decided to switch to Mobile1 just to test.

Just like curtain oils cause MDS issues with the HEMI.

I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying going back to Mobile1 is a cheap place to start.

The Pennzoil quality issue is something I see occasionally, and it dates back decades, to a time when Pennzoil used Pennsylvania crude. This was in the sixties and earlier, and was attributed in oil mythology to the higher "wax" content of Pennsylvania crude.

It was a myth back then (praffinity was a widely misconstrued term) and this legend is no more true now that it was in the fifties and sixties. Nope, it's something other than the oil.

Oil mythology is. Powerful thing, rivaling the best in The Iliad and The Odyssey.
