Pissed at Superchips

I have always been a devout supporter of Superchips but after today I don't know. I know better than to post this in their vendor forum because nobody from Superchips has been there in 6 months. The scenario goes like this. Today I was pulling out of my driveway and the check engine light comes on. Code 455 major Evap leak. Didn't know what the code was at the time but figured I better check before I left and went in to the house and checked my FSM. After finding what the code was I knew where to look and found the evap hoses fell off the purge solenoid. I replaced all the brake lines and had the hoses unhooked and probably never got them pushed back on tight. No big deal pushed the two hoses back on tight and figured I'd clear the code when I got to my bud's place. MIL still on at my buddy's place as I figured it would be .I figured I would use the Flashpaq to clear the code instead of unhooking the batt. Hooked up the Flashpaq and it said 0 DTCs even though the MIL was still on. I said ok dumb red box clear the code.Wouldn't even shut off the MIL . Ended up unhooking the batt to clear a code I knew I had already had fixed. My data logging works about 1 in 5 tries ,I have no advanced trans tuning like you promised and I had to explain to people here why their 3875 wouldn't update when you had your issues with no input from you at all RON@SUPERCHIPS You want to be a vendor here then "Vend" or go elsewhere. You're lucky you make my sh@t run so good or I would hate you right now:lol:Better get the software you have straightened out before you start trying to woo the WK2 crowd.Rant over. Still(sort of)love you Superchips.

While I empathize with your frustration of having to deal with tunes that either don't deliver or dont function as promised, I can tell you that Ron and the rest of SC will likely never see this, much less reply. To be blunt, they make enough money selling programmers that they likely just don't care. Unfortunately that's the state of affairs, and it likely will remain that way.

WJs are not really a popular platform to tune in comparison to Rams, Dakotas, etc, so unless the programmer were to cause these problems in say, 100% of WJs, or '04 4.7 HOs, etc, it likely will not get fixed. The cost in man-hours to attempt to fix (successfully or not) an isolated issue in a platform that doesn't sell many programmers to begin with? Likely too much to warrant fixing what may very well be an issue with just your vehicle. I am in NO way telling you it's your problem, but to them, it may as well be.

It is unfortunate that the manufacturers of all the handheld tuners (Diablo, SC, etc) that include DCX support take this sort of attitude to a certain extent. But, at the end of the day, it is a business, business hinges upon cost versus benefit versus overall satisfaction versus competition. If there is minimal competition, and most are satisfied, what benefit is there (for them) to take on the extra cost of fixing a problem that may affect 1% of supported vehicles? or .1%? or just 1 vehicle by itself?

PS. If your datalogging does in fact work, I'd love to see your fuel trims and such, especially on the stock tune. I have a warmed over 4.7 HO SCT file I've been piecing together, but without a datalog w/ trims I can't make all the changes I normally do.

I know how you feel Dave! I have an actron 9580 that stays in the car now, it reads way more codes than the superchips (Like transmission and ABS codes). The superchips seems to be a decent programmer, but after a few tries I haven't even bothered with it for code reading. I haven't even tried datalogging with it yet. Mine also says no abs module found when I tried to update the tire size, and like you said it won't do advanced transmission tuning. Still worth it for the canned tunes overall, but highly dissapointed about all the other options they list it capable of on their website.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. That's why I don't waste money on a tuning chip for a WJ.

Given if I had a 4.7 H.O. I might contemplate it but for a vehicle that's not performance oriented I wouldn't bother.

Re: Pissed at Superchips

To be honest, when I bought my Superchips I bought it for the tune(s) rather than as a code reader. It's handy it doubled up as one (not that it ever threw a code to test it) but that was just nice to have.

I know how you feel but there is no replacement for a reader that does everything - Superchips just covered the PCM anyway. I'd be a bit miffed as well thinking 'oh I have a reader here...' plug it in and it doesn't do squat tho!

The thing is the tunes really work well on a WJ. It's just that about half of everything else doesn't. How much R&D did they do about 5 miles? I'd feel pretty guilty if I sold a product that half worked unless it was to Tony or Aaron:slapfight:(j/k bros) They will tell you anything to sink the hook. That's the part that eats at me cause I would probably still have bought it if it was just a tuner. http://www.jeepgarage.org/f124/ho-engines-16829.html

Hopefully that Scott @ Superchips can chime in and settle this. His last activity was on 4/02.

Ha, thanks, I'd half ass a project for you too!;) Funny that I actually do have one.... maybe you designed it?:p

I guess I'm overall happy enough with all that it does, I forgot about using it as a code reader until you suggested it a while ago.

Welcome to the real world. This happens all the time and it will never change. Sorry to hear about you having a hard time. I hope they fix it for you. With all the trouble I've been reading on getting a programmer for a WJ I've decided not to get one. Too much BS to worry about and I don't feel like going through it right now. LOL

I doubt they're gonna do anything. I've had it for well over a year but this is the first time I tried the code scanner. Like I said though the tuner part and the canned tunes really wake up a WJ so I'm happy with that part anyway.
