longest Cargo Carrier without gate issue?

Ok, so i've searched but can't find my answers. Should be getting our Overland in the next few days and will need to quickly get a carrier for upcoming trip. Realized the antenna was an issue but did't think the gate would be, but now not sure. So what is the longest roof top carrier you can get without impacting the liftgate?

Also would like opinions on mopar vs Yakima cross rails. anybody gotten or seen how the westin sure grip running boards look / function?

Thanks for any help for the new guy....

I too have a 2012 Overland and want to put a cargo carrier on the roof. My issue is I think the antenna located in the center rear of the roof is used for Navigation, Satellite radio and AM/FM--but I can not find a definitive answer. However, if I am right, would placement of a roof box/cargo carrier either over or near that antenna cause interference? The best I can figure out is the OEM box offered by Mopar goes to or over the antenna. Both Yak and Thule make shorter boxes but they do not accomodate downhill skis. Can anyone shed more light on this situation please.

The Thule Ascent 1100 box is too long but fits downhills, and the Thule Ascent 1600 is fine but will not hold downhills. Check out Visual Garage for their Sharkfin antenna which may cut down on FM reception depending on where you live but it helps with the antenna problem. You may have to e-mail or call them to buy one as it wasn't listed on their website as of a month or so ago.

The problem on the boxes is the rear overhang on the JGC, it will hit the rear hatch when it opens. You can buy the 1100 and just hold the hatch short of opening fully but this gets old and might eventually bother the hatch mechanism. I did this for a couple of years but........................what pain!

Re: longest Cargo Carrier without gate issue?

Thank you fireron for the information. I eneded up getting a Thule Atlantis 1600 which fits on my Chyrsler OEM cross bars and clears the rear overhang when it is open by several inches. It "bends" the flexible part of my antenna down a bit but not enough to break it, and teh best part is all of my satellite functions seem to work fine with the box on top of the vehicle.
