I taught anti-seize was a no no on the spark plugs? I've really never used that for any other car I've changed plugs for but I do have some! Thanks, now exrensions on the other I dnt have many! What kind you recommend?

I've seen some video were they say to remove the air intake for easier access is this true? Never done a spark plug change on a jeep before

i just did my plugs last week, it had the original Champion Spark plugs in it. my jeep has 106K on it now and let me tell you im not even sure why it still fired up and ran smooth at all. when i pulled the plugs out the gap was double the spec.

all the plugs electrodes were worn down to the insulator. the gap was at .82 and factory spec for the 4.7 is .40

any how i changed all of mine out and going slow to make sure i didnt screw anything up it only took about 1hr.

1st i removed in the complete air intake tube so i had extra room. the 1st 3 on the drivers side were easy and the first 2 on the passenger side were easy. the last one on the drivers side you have to stick your hands through a bunch of wires and vacuum lines to get to. i used a 5" extension and a 3" extension for most of them so i could get extra room to move the ratchet.

the last 2 on the passenger side were more difficult and i had to unbolt the oil dipstick tube from the top of the intake manifold so i could move it enough to get the coil pack out. and the very last one on the passenger side i put the 5 in extension with the sparkplug socket into the spark plug socket by hand then put the ratchet on the extension. this was the only way to get it in there.

if you have a universal joint for you ratchet it will make this much easier.

and one last tip when you are threading the new plugs back into the heads. put the plug in the spark plug socket and use the 5" extension to insert into the head carefully then turn the plug counter clockwise slowly until you feel a click. this will mean the threads are lines up correctly and you can start to thread the plugs in by hand to make sure you are not cross threading them.

Check out the above link, very helpful when I did mine. I always like to use a little anti seize, especially with the aluminum heads. Removing the reso box gives you more room to work around there. I did all but 1 plug in about 30-45 minutes taking my time, the last one on the passenger side requires a little more effort and extensions/universals to get back there. Good Luck!
