Oil Drain Plug Washer?

Curious if you change the washer each time you change your oil? I know some cars you have to and some it doesn't matter.

I've never changed the washer on any car I've owned (some 45 years of driving).

I haven't changed my own oil in 25+ years, but I had Subarus then. They had a crushable washer and that needed to be changed each time.

I had a toyota before the GC that was supposed to have the nylon washer replaced every oil change but I usually just changed it every few years and never had a problem.

my fiancee has a toyota also, but it's a rubber coated stainless steel washer. i changed it out when the rubber coating was all gone.

I just replace the plug with a Fumoto Quickvalve. http://www.qwikvalve.com/homec.php?g...FeUEQAodm3t9ZQ

+1  Been doing that on all my vehicles for years. No burned fingers hunting for the plug in a pool of hot motor oil.

I wonder if there is a danger in these quick valves getting knocked off by road debris?

I have had them on the last 3 cars I have owned and never had a problem. I have not put one on the GC ...yet. BTW send an email to the place you buy it and sometimes they will send you a discount code.

http://img.tapatalk.com/ad16f836-634f-63bb.jpgI have not used the fumoto quick valve but based on looks and experience with the Fram Sure Drain, I'd get the Fram product over the fumoto. The Fram has a spring loaded valve activated by the drain hose end when you screw it into the pan mounted valve. When the drain hose is not in use, there is a cover that threads onto the pan valve (with an o-ring) to provide secondary protection against accidental spillage. Also, the Fram model reqiures less clearance.
