Auxiliary switches

Has anyone added any switches to their wk2? I am trying to add a light bar, but can't come up with a clean idea to mount the switches. Open to suggestions!

I wonder if you could buy an OEM switch to fit into one of the blanks in the button stack below the heater controls. I would get the one with the least graphics and modify/overlay it with a custom graphic. I would get the one for the rear seat 115V power outlet and modify it into a light symbol. Best luck.

I took apart the dash, and specifically the front switches - there is a circuit board behind those switches, so I don't know that I can drill through to make the switch work (originally I was planning to put the LEDs for my radar detector in that blank).

Anyone have any idea if you can put a factory switch in there and mod it?

there is someone on this forum that has installed a light bar, if you can find the thread you can ask him.

Re: Auxiliary switches

I agree, there should be way to add clean "AUX" switches to the WK2. My jeep only has two push (on/off) switches, but it seems like there is room for up to 6 switches. I am trying to plan electrical for roof rack floods & back up activation switches, air compressor, and winch. The air compressor can be located close to the compressor (in the engine compartment), but I would like to be able to control lights and winch from inside the cabin without adding toggle switches galore. Anyone have a clean install that matches the WK2 interior?

That's difficult because they are not "blank switches". Rather, they are part of a major assembly that has a circuit board across the back. Remember, the JGC uses computerized control for things, not "traditional" on-off switches that directly connect to things like in the "good old days".

There is a write up online somewhere about a guy who disassembled the switchback and did a very nice job placing a switch in one of the dead spots. It was fairly involved as far as the amount of effort goes but really nice the integrated. Other then that mounting them in the cubbyhole in for the center consul seems to me the nicest because very few switches will mesh with the interior styling well enough to place them in plain view.

This is for a WK(1) but the principle is probably the same. I wonder if you could get the switch panel from a Durango that has all 7 buttons then just wire the right-most push button.
