Diesel Particulate Filter
When I was researching the new Diesel engine prior to purchase, one concern I had was the use of the DPF technology and the issues that can arise especially around the burn off and stopages due to forced cleaning.

I was particularly concerned because our main use is my wife's daily car where there would be a lot of stop start and vehicle would be running for no longer than 10-15 minutes at a time often only 5 minutes before reaching her destination.

We have had the car now for 4 months and have done nearly 6,000kms. Of these I'd guess 4,000km mostly are short stop and are broken up by a 400km trip every 800-1,000 kms.

We have had no problems at all with the DPF filter (or anything else for that matter).

Just thought I'd make the point in case others with a similar intended use were also concerned. Any comments would be welcomed.

Very important to use the correct (and Chrysler approved) low ash engine oil in the CRD to avoid poisoning the DPF.
Worthwhile doing a bit of research in this area to make sure your dealer doesn't use a "one size fits all" approach to oil changes.
The appropriate oils are quite expensive but there is a reason for that.

Speaking of a DPF, anyone seen or heard anything about the US diesel having urea/DEF injection? 04-13-2012 05:00 PM

I do not believe it will have urea injection. The new diesel, according to the specs I have seen, actually burns cleaner than the Pentastar.

We also mainly use ours in urban school and shopping runs, 10 mins max run time most of the time. We have not had any issues either.
The DFP system appears to be a better design as it is bolted to the turbo, so heats up a lot faster than the old Merc ones that were further down the exhaust.
