painting the stainless window surround trim

I would like to paint the window surround trim black on my Overland, but my body shop, while they did a fine job with painting all the plastic "chrome" pieces, wanted nothing to do with the window trim, as apparently paint does not always adhere well to stainless.

I know stainless can be painted if done properly. Do any of you have experience with the "proper" way to paint this stainless trim, and if you do, could you please share your knowledge with the rest of us?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Get it wrapped in vinyl. It will look better, last longer, and is removable if you want a change down the road. Also can we see some pics of the paint work you had done on the chrome pieces?

Or Plasti dip it

Thanks for the advice, guys. How does one locate a shop or someone who does vinyl wrapping? And as far as Plasti-dip goes, I've used it for dipping various tools, etc., but never for spraying. Is it really that durable in an application like this? Does anyone think one of these methods is likely to give better results than the other?

I've got some good pictures, but the wife is away for a few days and I need her help in figuring out how to post them. Will try to get 'em up next week.

I'd second vinyl, if you wanted to DIY it's cheap enough that you could make mistakes and really take your time to do a really good job, no worries about paint quality/finish/durability. I've been thinking about doing this with vinyl, I've seen it done on many other make/model vehicles so there are threads out there to help walk you through it.

As far as a vinyl shop, FASTSIGNS and SIGNSNOW are usually pretty helpful and easily accessible. Hope that helps.
