Looking at a 2007 Volvo S80

Alright well it looks like I will be trading my Jeep in soon because of unexpected maintenance. The rear axle will have to be overhauled and new brakes and tires. So instead of sinking at least $2000 in a $6000 vehicle I am planning on trading it in.

My needs/wants:
4 door
Decent power
all wheel drive
Semi-luxurious (Leather etc)
Automatic
Price range will probably be around $12,000-$19,000

I found this nice Volvo. I did see it was in two accidents but still has a clean title. Any thoughts??

My wife had a 2007 Ford 500 AWD which is the same chassis as that Volvo. It was a good car except it was FWD. 2000 miles out of warranty it developed a leak in the oiled bearing for the AC compressor and without removing the engine I didn't see a way to replace the compressor. So I traded it in for her new car, which, like your Jeep has its engine planted in the correct orientation, so I can make the repairs myself without performing major heavy-lift surgery.

$2000 in repairs is not such a big deal. I think the best way to look at it based on monthly costs. Say that an equivalent vehicle with no repairs costs you $400/ month. If your $2000 repair lasts 5 months then you broke even; if it lasts longer then you make money on it every month after that.

The bottom line is that if you like the vehicle and you can justify repair like that then make the repairs. If you want something else for whatever reason then get rid of it.

yeah I get that but it already has 100,000 miles on it and it seems to be in the shop every other month for repairs over $200 at a time. I figure if I trade it in now I can get a decent price as opposed to getting rid of it down the road and getting nothing. I think it is time for a change anyway (haha)...

And thanks for the input about the car, The one I would be looking at was the V8 and even though the engine is oriented the same way but I hope it won't have the same problems as the 500.
