Towed my travel trailer home today...

It weighs about 4000 lb. and my new 2012 Laredo X handled it beautifully. BUT, there were a couple of interesting glitches. The trailer hitch was picked up by the rear park assist as a potential danger so it beeped constantly when I was backing up to the trailer. Once the trailer was hooked up, we had a seamless ride home, but when I was backing it into its parking spot, the beeping changed to a constant alarm until I finally got it in place.
I wish there was some way to temporarily disable the alarm when traillering.
BTW, the back-up camera is worth its weight in gold when hitching up. (Much better than a wife waving her arms in all directions. lol)

There is a button on the dash that turns off the back up warning... At least there is in my 2011 GC Overland Summit. I am sure if you have the same back up alert system you have the same button on your dash. It's the button on the far right, just below the air conditioner controls. It has a capital letter "P" with the word "OFF" beneath it.

EDIT: I forgot...you can also go into the EVIC and turn off the sound warning so that the only thing that shows up is the display warning on the EVIC screen. Obviously, the easiest thing to do is just hit the "Park Assist" button on dash though if you're in a hurry!

Thanx John,
My last Jeep was a '97 and was pretty primitive by comparison, so I've got a learning curve ahead of me.

How did we survive hitching trailers without backup cameras? Oh yeah, we dented a lot of license plates and bumpers.

or it took 15 minutes with a helper trying to direct you, half the time backwards and completely wrong. :)

I used to just open the liftgate. Suspect can do the same with the WK2 (sometimes open when backing since have not added the camera yet. Maybe Saturday.

chuckster,

As stated above, the 'Parksense' can be controlled by both EVIC & the center dash 'P-OFF' switch...

Chuckster,

Nice comments on your towing experience. Can you give me additional feedback? Does your GC have the V6 or V8? I am looking at purchasing a GC Overland BUT I am still unsure about the towing ability of the V6? I currently have a 2002 Ford Explorer with the 4.6L V8 and tows my boat very well. I have a 17' Lund that weighs, with all the gear and fuel, approx. 3K lbs. Any additional feedback from you or other GC owners would be greatly appreciated.

Have a safe day!!!

Mine has the Pentastar V6 which to me, seems to have power to spare (290 hp). Of course I'm used to the old 4 L I6 in my ZJ. I'll post more revelations as they appear as I still only have 1350 km on her. I'm still trying to figure out the sound system, and other bells & whistles I'm not used to. Yours should handle a 17' boat no problem.

Very nice. I'm not sure if you have the tow mode button in the V6 but if you do it should turn off the sensor as well. It does with my hemi at least.

No. The V6 does not have the tow button so I have to use the shifter knob to manually keep her in 4th for heavy towing to protect the overdrive. My old ZJ had a button the dash to push to do that. So, in a way, this is not as handy.

Re: Towed my travel trailer home today...

I've just started towing a 22-2300 lb. trailer with our V6 Overland and while I don't have much to compare it to, it seems to do fine. Keeping it in fourth gear really kills the MPG, but I guess that's to be expected.

I also used this forum to get a nice electric brake controller unit and that seems to help quite a bit.
