Looking for my first Jeep! Thoughts?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at finally picking up my first Jeep and I think the one I'm leaning towards is the GC- probably the Laredo X package. I was wondering though am I better off waiting until the end of 2012 to see if the prices go down because of all the newer models. I should mention that I do have a working lease at the moment that would expire May 2013 so I'm not really in a rush. That is except for the fact that I'm itching to get into the GC haha!

Was also wondering if there is anything I should know before buying one of these? Thanks for everyone's advice in advance, I look forward to hopefully contributing to the forums.

I was a Ford guy for 30 years and did a lot of research before I bought mine. You won't be disappointed.

I'm replacing a trooper that has 220K miles on it. The only thing I'm worried about is the blind spot some owners have mentioned. My trooper is all windows and can pretty much see all around!

I'm the other way - 24 years, fourth Jeep and a loyal owner. I have never had any major repair or quality issues, despite what CR and other media may say.

You really are just about at the end of MY 2012. I would think that after May 1 you might might have some luck with negotiations of in stock vehicles.

Same here. I guess I'll be able to know if this'll actually be a problem for me when I take one for a test drive / rent one for a day and play with the various seating positions.

The only other thing besides that is EuroNCAP's findings (bottom of the page) when they crash tested the GC late last year. Still no word from them as to whether or not the issue has been fixed yet (or whether or not it even affects US models?), but if it hasn't by the time I'm ready to buy in the late summer/early fall, then I'll have to unfortunately look elsewhere, which I really don't want to have to do as the WK2 is my first choice by far -- it looks great, is a great value, and and aside from EuroNCAP's findings, does very well in the IIHS and NHTSA crash tests.

Never heard of blind spot issues with the new Grand Cherokee. Infact I'm sitting in my new Jeep as I type this and there is no blind spot issues whatsoever. Plus, the blind spot monitoring system is great as well!

Why is there a blind spot monitor if there are no blind spots? :)

Visibility is pretty good, one of the reasons I bought mine. If you want to see blind spots test drive a Ford Explorer!

Oh, that may explain why a new Ford Explorer almost side swiped me when he changed lanes a few weeks ago. I slammed the brakes as I saw it coming and he finally saw me and swerved back. I will stay far away from Explorers in the future.
