Hiding Cables Behind Dash
Hi all,

I'd like to run a DC power cable for my cell phone up behind the dash from the front center DC outlet and pop it out on top of the dash. Possible? I have a windshield/dash mounted cell phone dock.

I'd also like 1/8" audio up there but I don't see how I can do that with the stock radio with the 1/8" port in the front... BUT, I am looking for aftermarket radio suggestions... perhaps for another thread.

Obviously, don't really want to cut holes or damage anything.

Ideas would be great!

Run the wires up behind the radio and drill into the air vent behind the radio, then you can run the wires up and out the vent under the windscreen. That way you will never see any holes.

Re: Hiding Cables Behind Dash
If you google the radio model you have (RHR, RBZ...), a photo of the rear panel should show up on one of the referenced pages. I'm not sure there is an aux input on the rear. Probably not. contains radio wiring diagrams and upgrade information.

When you look for aftermarket radios, keep in mind it is a high frequency CAN bus system and you will need adapters. The dash supports need to be trimmed a bit to fit a double din radio. I'm partial to Kenwood since they use the superior Garmin NAV. Pioneer is also a popular model here. Just pick one with the features you want. There are several threads in the audio section of this forum covering upgrades.

Thanks a lot of the info.

I'm actually not against just getting a GOOD single DIN or maybe one of the rare 1.5 DIN.

Has anyone had a problem with warranties with DIY radio mods?

Re: Hiding Cables Behind Dash
Hi all,

I installed a Pioneer AVH-P4400BH the other day and so far really like it.

To keep on topic, I managed to get a long USB cable ran from the center console storage bin (under the radio) across the dash and then up the trim to the bottom left corner of the windshield. It was really easy actually.

Just used a wire push/pull stick and fed it across and it went with no issue. The trim just pulls off with the rubber seal around the door.

In the storage bin, there are some small openings on the left and right side behind where the door opens and closes. You can fit cables through those holes without them interfering with the door. So, I have my windshield phone dock with power plugged into a charger and no wires are visible! Love it.

I also dropped the included USB extension cable from the back of the radio down into the storage bin in case I want to plug in a thumb drive or something. I may get the iPod cable and leave an iPod in there.
