trailer running lights not working

Can anyone help me, my trailer running lights stopped working. Brake and signal working fine.
Using the 4 pin connector

Wondering if I shorted a fuse, that may be separate from the brake/signal lights that I'm missing here.
Thanks

Re: trailer running lights not working

Whenever I have trouble with trailer lights it always seems to be a ground wire problem.

Re: trailer running lights not working

If you have access to a volt meter or even a simple test light you can check the voltage at the connector on the vehicle. One connector is for left signal and brake, one for right signal and brake and the last one is your running lights. If you have voltage there, your problem is on the trailer or pigtail connector, and could very likely be a bad ground or a break in that wire. You should be able to trace it all the way back to the lights.

I just started having this issue, too. I thought that the problem was with my utility trailer, but I just got a boat trailer and its running lights won't come on either. Did you ever figure out the problem, windsurfnut?

I did. I found a blown fuse.

Do you happen to remember which fuse?

Never mind. The manual says J14. I'll give it a shot.

For anyone else who has this problem, check fuse J14 in the fusebox under the hood. The fuse locations are printed on the underside of the fusebox lid. J14 is a 20 amp female maxi fuse that protects the trailer running light circuit. Mine was blown. I replaced it and now my trailer lights work fine.

Hey thanks. I had people honking at me all night long. J14 fuse is trailer running lights for 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Found it this morning after reading this post.

Thanks!

I have the same problem. No running lights on 3 different trailers have brake and directional but that's it. Check all fuses and relays. The brown wire at the factory trailer plug which is your running light wire. goes from plug to a relay in a side panel in the back. Any clue why there's no power to that brown wire.

I have the same problem with my 2016 Wrangler Rubicon! I hooked up my old trailer and discovered running lights not working. Assumed it was the old trailer, but before testing to be sure, I had to pick up a second trailer and discovered same problem with it. Jeep manual shows location of one fuse box - under the hood - no clues on what fuse to look at, of course. Inside the fuse box lid the diagram says M2 is a 20 amp for "trailer lighting." All trailer lighting? But the fuse is good.

When I called my dealer for guidance, the "one tech who might be able to answer has gone home" at 4:00 pm ...on a Monday. Guess I was talking with a service writer, but she definitely had NO CLUE.

Can anyone help?

There is a relay in the TIPM that switched power on for the running (parking) lights. It is before the fuse. Pull the fuse, switch on your parking lights and use a meter to check voltage across the fuse slot. If there is no voltage then you likely have an issue with the TIPM. If you have power then the relay is fine and (if the fuse is too) the problem likely resides in wiring.
