Great Sand Dunes

Like all of our National Parks, The Great Sand Dunes NP is a special place. Highly recommended: http://www.nps.gov/grsa/index.htm

A few photos below from a road trip this past week.

First, the WK2 handled road warrior, toy hauling duties flawlessly. Despite ascending elevation, higher speeds, 3,000 lb trailer, roof rack, and multiple big rig passes, the Hemi averaged 15.4 MPG over 500 miles.

Zapata Falls, short hike (unless you are carrying a kid on your back), through the creek and hidden in a cave.

Next duties a bit of sand trail 4X. The Dunes are protected, so hiking only, but Medano Creek Primitive 4X road is a very cool sand outing.

X-post to one of several decent sized creek crossings.

Really cool, I've been wanting to get to the Silver Lake sand dunes up in Michigan for a while. Great pics and awesome use of the JGC, keep it up!

Very cool pics, did you air down your tires or was it even needed? I need to plan a trip down there, never been.

Love it! It has been one of my favorite places to camp. I did the Medano Pass back in 1998 when I first bought my ZJ. Drove all the way from Dallas for the 4th of July weekend. Hiking the dunes is really awesome... only wish they opened some part of the dunes for 4-wheeling. :)

Great pics. The fourth one down (where you're parked next to the trailer) looks like it should be in a Jeep brochure.
