Power steering pump leaking
As the title says I just found out that my power steering pump is leaking from underneath it somewhere. It happened out of now where. Went to make a turn and the steering got really hard and it started making a loud whinning noise. So I checked the fluid and there was barely any in there. Was able to make it home, bought the fluid from the dealer and filled it. Still made the whinning noise and while looking at the pump noticed fluid coming from the bottom leaking slowly down the side.

So My question is... It doesnt appear to be hard to replace the pump, but before I go and do that is there a gasket behind it that might have gone bad or am I just better off replacing it? Where is a good place to get a new one from? Dealer or online?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Power steering pump leaking
Just make sure its not a failing line... if its coming from the pump Mopar sells the pump and suggests a new resevoir because yours will likely be full of pump debris (if for nothing more than from running low on fluid). Im not sure with the aftermarket options but all mopar pumps you have to swap the pulley... If your new pump doesnt have a pulley your going to need to get a pulley puller to swap it.

Re: Power steering pump leaking
Thanks for the input. Called the dealer and was quoted $175.00 with the pulley. Is there much of a difference between original vs. aftermarket when it comes to the pump?
