Cam advice....Install help!

I am from Des Moines Iowa, just curious if anyone knows anyone plus or minus say, 100 miles or so that would know what they are doing installing a cam in my jeep. I would be willing to pay for their time!!

I have several friends that are into LS1s and such and they want nothing to do with it. I really need to trust this person. It is my daily driver and I am trying to fight the urge to not trade this thing on on an srt8. I cannot afford the payment on the srt8, and I really need the hitch. If there was not a 10-15 thousand dollar difference it would be done.

I am also lost on these cams. As in which one. I do not have many mods, but I want it to sound mean. I am just sick of driving around and having to floor this thing to get it moving.

Tossing the idea of either a spartan or sidewinder. I just really dont know....

Sidewinder is good. I personally like the Comp 210X, or the Comp 268.

I actually DO know someone in that area that would probably be willing to do a cam install. Let me make a phone call tomorrow.

The Sidewinder won't give you a choppy idle.....it'll be almost as smooth as stock. If you want choppy, unless you do a whole bunch more to the engine, that's about all you'll get. It'll almost completely kill the bottom end (stock hemi would probably beat you on the low end) and move the power/torque range way up to an RPM range you won't use much, unless you go drag racing all the time. You'll also need heads, higher compression ratio, different lifters, and a complete exhaust (headers and cat. back) to make it work to its full potential. You may also experience fairly serious tuning issues too. It will sound neat though. Let us know which cam and mods. you go with.

You can have a fair amount of lope and retain street manners and low end (stock or slightly better), provided you don't go nuts on the duration. MDS lifters will likely need to go, though.

Im putting costs together and am almost thinkin it would be easier to trade off my 5.7 for an srt. Even with a cam and tuning i dont think i could hang with one

You'd need at minimum Longtubes, cam, and a stall converter. The 5.7 reacts well, but the 6.1 is a beast.

Well, had pretty much 2 srt8s picked out and was actually trying to get the better of the two deals. The one I wanted sold, and the other one the dealer didnt wanna budge at all. In fact they treated me like I have never bought a car before and tried to sell me other vehicles too.

The buyer for mine also fell through. Maybe its a sign. But I might have an installer lined up now. I have been looking at the sidewinder and the spartan. What about the comp xfi 268? I dont mine loosing mds. And I have johan on speed dial. I planned on doing 6.1 pushrods and springs also

Spartan Max. Buy all the supporting mods it requires and you'll love it.
