Whispbar Update

Since my original posts, I ordered the Aeroblade with the various kits from REI. $464.00 and this didn't include 4 locks which were an additonal $100. OUCH

However I'm pleased to say that I'm looking at my new Whispbar Roof Rack on my 2011 JGC right now!!

(Short Story) I called Yakima directly in Oregon and asked why the proper fit kit isn't available domestically and the customer service person tried to tell me the jeep may be constructed differently. I told her the roof was identical to the euro models and she said she would research. The sales manager finally got back to me 3 weeks later stating that I was correct in that I needed the K624 Mount Kit with the S25 bar. He shipped the S25bar immediately and once the mount kit he ordered was in, it was shipped immediately. He stated he was sorry for the inconvenience and discounted everything 20%. My total was under $400.00 and the Whispbar Racks include locks (same locks as the Yakima products). I also did not have to remove the old rails which was indicated by RackAttack.

I have nothing against the Aeroblades, but I really liked the flush mount look of the Whispbar and how quiet they are.

Just returned my Aeroblades and kits to REI today.

Pictures would be great. I'm looking to get this setup, but can't find any pictures of how it integrates with the factory GC rails and the overall look.

Thanks

The Australian whispbar website has pics on a WK2. Just do the search here ...

Just click on the "see it" button for Option 1 and Option 2

Perfect, thanks. That's the look i was hoping for...a nice low profile side to side without the bar extending past the foot.

Re: Whispbar Update

In case anyone is planning on getting this rack, ORS Direct and Rack Attack are out of stock of the K624 fit kit. I've had an order waiting for about a month now. I spoke to Yakima who said they have more being made in July and they will be at retailers early Aug.

If anyone finds the fit kit in stock anywhere else, let me know.

Hey All,
Very sorry for such a delayed response. I've attached some pics of the Whispbar on my Jeep. Additionally, I've also since mounted the Shark Fin so that I could put my Thule XT1600 Cargo box on top without antenna interference. Any questions, please ask.

Thanks
Steve

That actually looks really good. I'm glad I ordered it, but as a previous poster said, the mounting kit is back ordered, so I'm at the mercy of the suppliers.

I'm starting to think that maybe I should just purchase the Shark Fin afterall. I canceled my order originally because I needed all the radio antenna I could get for picking up signals. However, after looking at your setup, I like yours much better than an antenna sticking up.

Thanks for posting the pics. The Whispbar looks great. I will be getting this one now that I've seen how good it looks. Does it make any noise at highway speeds? How hard is it to remove or do you leave the bars attached when not in use?
