Tire Rotation - How Often?

I was at the stealership today for an oil change and inspection.

They recommended tire rotation every 6K miles - not wildly out of range, but maybe a bit more frequent than I have done on prior vehicles.

Curious. How often do you rotate, and do you do it yourself?

More often isn't going to hurt anything. I'll do the wifes GC that often. On my JK with 37s I do a 5 tire rotation every 3000 miles when I change oil.
I don't want them wearing funny, the street tires aren't so critical.

Manual says every 6 months or 8000 miles or so for tire rotation.

I DIY and hit the 6 month schedule to rotate, but it is prompted by switching out from summer 20's to winter/trail 18" set. Easy enough to do with a floor jack, and then marking the tires with chalk to indicate where they were mounted prior season.

I got lazy on the wife's SUV and her tires got cupped a bit given the extra mileage and heft of our SUV's, so rotating more often is likely a good plan.

Although the 6k rotation is the norm, I usually go 10k. if you have AT or real off road tires, cupping can occur and rotation would be needed sooner. Street tires with a proper alignment can go 10k miles with no problem.;)

I also rotate them every 10k miles or every other oil change which is just about the same.

I rotate with the change of summer to/from winter tires.

i find it funny that it has a time period, what if you only have 500 miles after 6 months

I'd say 5-6k. I went like 8k and the fronts had to much wear from turning and yes my car has been aligned and isn't out of alignment. Its an SUV with large tires and turns often. More rotations the better.

I was thinkin the same thing. I can see oil but tires?? Really? I will probably do mine every other oil change which will probably be every 5000 miles.. So every 10k I will rotate.

I rotate at about 5,000 miles. I do it myself so I can inspect things closely and so I can clean the inside of the wheels.

10k miles here as well and that includes my trucks with more agressive AT tires on them but still a good idea to inspect them every oil change just to make sure they are wearing well.
