Finding the exact build date?

How can I find the exact build date month and year?

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_vin.htm

Scroll down to "vehicle certification label"

This will give you the Year, month, day, and hour it was built.

What if you only have the VIN #?

It doesn't look like that would be possible... unless you have a dealer look it up for you?

Re: Finding the exact build date?

2012 has a different vin numbering system from what I read and have seen.
Mine was built in 11/11 and my vin has different letters then what is listed there.
Look on the door for the build date, one of the stickers on the drivers side.

You used to be able to enter the VIN on one of the tracking sites, but they pretty much locked that down. The dealer can get build status or a build sheet, or if you support the forum via paid membership I believe someone would look it up for you.

Door sticker is the only way to know exactly. "Options Report" does not have assembly date.

With enough participants you could tell from the VIN, they are sequential.

It's hard to pinpoint an "exact" build date as there are 4 different dates assigned, all representing different stages of completion/inspection. The "default" reference build date is what is on the build sheet, sometimes referred to as the "warranty build date". This is what is used for vehicle registry lists, and also what Chrysler goes by when they release build order information.

Vehicles are not built in VIN order, it would be impossible to do so. Sometimes short runs are done in order but that is rare. Vehicles following one another down the assembly line can be tens of thousands of digits apart, even if they are the same model, color, trim, same options.

Your VIN should match what's is on the WK2 site under the "2012" section (J was recently added and sometimes used for airbag designation). What on yours is different?

2012 Overland example:

1C4 = Chrysler Group
R = 6001 - 7000 lbs GVWR (also may use "J" for airbags)
J = Jeep
F = 4WD (or E for 2WD)
C = Overland
T = 5.7L
9 = Check digit
C = 2012
C = Jefferson North
000000 = Serial number

Re: Finding the exact build date?

If you look at the web site, the differences between 2011 (1J4) and 2012 (1C4) are minor but both are listed. Biggest difference is 2012 lists the weight codes correctly. The Vin decode in the parts book is older/incorrect. Is a "Z" used for altitude in the VIN or is that just an option code ?

Thank you :D, I didn't look at the 2012 page, was referencing the 2011 page.
Mine matches up as you have listed below

I checked a couple of Altitute VIN's but none had a "Z". They fall under Laredo (7th digit "A"). Where have you seen "Z" listed?
