Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

Today on my way home from work, I heard a rattle that was obnoxious.
It sounded like it was first coming from my dash above the speedometer.
Then I wondered if it was my wiper rattling on the windshield, so stopped and made sure that was not it. It still rattled.

I'd like anyone's ideas of what it could possibly be. After looking the 12 Overland over carefully at home, raised the hood - I think it could be the windshield chattering as the molding at the bottom of the windshield seems a little deformed and not meeting the glass very flush.

What are your ideas or thoughts about this? It is 6 months old and has never made too many sounds at all like this. If anyone has more info or links to other information I would be most appreciative. Thanks for your help.

I had a similiar rattle although my sound came from the middle of the dash. Wound up to be a pair of glasses in my sunglass holder that was making the noise....

Would be a kik in the pants if that was it for you too....

Mine was the trim ring(chrome plastic) around the tach.
pushed it on tight = no rattle

Take the paper clip out of the interior passenger door handle. ;)

Sunglasses in the sunglass holder for me. I was switching the AC on and off, music on and off, lowering the bass, tapping on the dash among other things until I finally had my "Duh" moment and remembered the shades I had stored up there.
I hope your rattle turns out to be nothing like mine did.

No glasses clips etc. pretty sure it is bad molding at bottom of windshield.

I vaguely recall a TSB or known issue regarding windshield fitment, not sure if that would help. Also there is a thread regarding a dashboard rattle. I'm unable to easily search for them on my iPhone. Ill check back later and search on my desktop if needed. Good luck.

Yep, same problem: Sunglasses in the holder!

Thanks Mendo - I think it's something with the cowling under the windshield chattering against it. I tried searching the TSB's with no luck. If you find it please let me know.

Sometimes I hear a popping coming from the windshield and my husband hears it too, he thinks it's the seal.

I can see an area on the bottom left of the front windshield where the molding is warped a bit. Thanks Overland Mom for your input.

Check your steering wheel is not lowered all the way down. My wifes did the same and it was the steering column against it's bump stop when dropped to it's lowest setting. Adjusted the wheel higher ever so slightly....problem fixed. Could have sworn the knock was behind the speedo or somewhere in the centre console. But all good now.....Hate RATTLES:mad:
