Running Boards, yay or nay?

When I first bought my 2004 JGC back in December I was not thrilled about the factory running boards and wanted to remove them, they just didn't look right. Also I needed to stretch out over them a little when exiting. As time has gone by I have found they are very useful, like when I need to reach the roof, and sunroof glass during the weekly washing. The kids and other folks use them to get in and out and I have used them to tie a ladder to the roof racks. I think now they have kind of grown on me. So, do I keep them or remove them... I'm just not sure.

I agree ^

I think less is more. I use the rear tire, and the front door sill to stand on to get to the roof to clean. Kids should be placed in a straightjacket and placed into the vehicle by an adult, as to not scratch the paint, or stain any interior pieces, or kick the back of the seats...hehehehhe.

I wish I could make my sister-in-law drive separate this weekend, but no the wife insists that the jeep is big enough for everyone so we can save gas. I swear I will bungee cord my niece's legs together and to the back seat support if she kicks... :slapfight: Never mind having a car seat strapped in, my poor leather... Don't worry, you will get pampered once I kick everyone out!

NICE JEEP!!!! Looks like it just rolled of the assembly line!

Yeah, I'd totally lose the boards...but that's just my opinion. Those things are also great for holding salty snow and slush against your rockers.

I had the boards on my 98 Cherokee and they were a love/hate thing for me. Too close to the vehicle to use to get in. When you stepped out over them you legs/clothes got dirty from them. I liked them when washing and waxing but was very close to removing them. Your call on this one...

I'd ditch them, personally.

The stock rockrails on my Overland I took off as well -- because they were rusting. And guess what? They caused my rockers underneath to start rusting in a few spots from hugging them so closely.
