to buy or not to buy that is the question
Last weekend my wife and I drove 2 hrs to a car lot to look at a 2008 G.C. overland she fell in love with it do to all the bells and whistles and I fell in love with the diesel motor. Took it for a test drive and all was well till we came to a stop sign when I got a nose full of motor oil blew it off the first time but got worried when I smelled it every time we stopped. We get back to the lot and I look under the hood where I find a oil soaked motor left a trail through the parking lot and the turbulence under the car somehow peppered the back glass with oil. Now today they call and say its no big deal oil fill cap gasket failed and leaked the oil. Is this posible or are these lot jockeys full of B.S.? They said they just serviced it so i felt like someone didnt get something tight but all I have is there word. If anyone has seen this fill me in.

If they just service it then ask them what they did. Oil cap gasket cannot blow JUST LIKE THAT. There is not enough pressure for the(in normal circucumstances). How many miles????. If they overfil it it can happend.
If possible ask them for longer test drive (over the weekend)

The o-rings on those can go if not installed properly. This would explain why to engine was soaked in oil. If the o-ring was not installed properly then they could very well have put too much oil in as well. I would just get them to throw in some extra waranty and maybe drop the price.
