4 wheel driving mods
So I have had now the GC Limited for about 3months now and am ready to go out and get it a bit dirty.

But since I have not done much off-roading before, what does everyone recommend as the minimum requirements/mods to go off the tarmac safely?

Are skid plates required? rock rails? etc

You can take a stock jeep off road, you just need to stay on terrain or trails that appropriate to your jeep. The more "off-road" mods you have, they more challenging terrain you can tackle. Just stay within your comfort zone and I would highly recommend not going alone if its your first time. Good luck and have fun.

Re: 4 wheel driving mods
hey dude, im getting into the 4x4 game too. Couple things i have learned are, extra ground clearance always makes things easier. make sure you are comfortable with your approach and departure angels (thats the clearance of the front and rear). Tires are also a must, the stock ones are horrible. If you are planning on doing quite a bit of off roading i would look for at least a good set of all terrain tires, maybe even mud terrian.... this is pretty much as far as i have gotten on my WK, and all i can say is it is a very capable and fun rig to take off road. like was said above, you just need to know your rig. Im not looking for armor so i can play a little harder out there. good luck with everything, this is a great site to help you get started!!

Re: 4 wheel driving mods
First thing I did was get the Rocky Road 2.5" lift and some good aggressive all-terrains. The lift might not be needed if you have the QL system. And as mentioned before, take it easy your first couple times. If you don't feel comfortable tackling an obstacle, don't do it.

As an example, My buddy (never wheeled before) took his brand new 2011 4runner out wheeling by himself. Decided to tackle a water/mud pit and it ended up being way deeper then he anticipated and the truck was totaled due to water damaging the electrical. The moral of the story is sit back and be patient and let others lead the way or tackle the obstacles first to see if it's something you should attempt.

Melbourne, Australia...

Went out today with some mates to throw some mud around and get the car driving through some water, and I must say the GC is very capable..!

Was a lot of fun and will definitely be going again..
