Trailer Tow Wire Harness
I just added a factory trailer hitch to my 2012 GC. My Jeep is the base model 2WD. When I ordered my hitch, I also ordered the $80 wiring harness that came with the 4/7 pin connector. Compared to some wiring harnesses that I have installed, this one looks a lot more complicated. Splicing wires is required. I noticed that I can get one from eTrailer that just plugs into my tail lights and thats it. What is the advantage of adding the factory harness? I will still have to take it to the dealership and have the computer reprogrammed after I install it. Also, if I go with the eTrailer version, how can I connect it to the 4/7 pin connector box to keep the stock appearance?

Alot of the aftermarket trailer adapaters have an integrated module that is plug and play. I can't speak for all of the aftermarket adapters, but I tend to see quite a few failures from these.
IMO, the factory harness is a more stable connection. The splicing isn't hard if you are handy with electrical work. After all connections are made, the trailer lighting circuit must be activated in the TIPM via Chrysler's StarScan.
