Re: Hemi oil cosumption
I'm not sure what is normal, but I've never had to add oil between changes on my '11 Overland 5.7L. I think most others will have this same experience. In the 60's and 70's many engines normally used a little oil, but modern engines have much closer tolerances.

Re: Hemi oil cosumption
I have a 2011 5.7L with 9,000 miles and changed oil every 6 months (about 3,000 miles) and it has used about 1/4 quart between oil changes.

Re: Hemi oil cosumption
doubtful thats normal, get on the horn and start calling differant dealers to get their opinion. whos doing the oil changes? sure the correct oil is being used? any evidence of burning oil,? tailpipe, or back of jeep oily? Id say you have a problem.

Re: Hemi oil cosumption
I'm using about 1 1/2 quarts every 5000 miles. I do have a catch can that collects about 1/2 quart in the same time frame. I also have the oil burning smoke at start up when parked on an incline issue, so I figure that some of the oil is being used there. I was told, by the dealer, that burning a quart or so between changes is the norm for the Hemi. I had a 5.7 chevy that had 200k miles and it didn't burn a drop. So my conclusion is that this is my last Hemi.

Re: Hemi oil cosumption
I don't buy the "oil burning is normal for the hemi" line either.
I havent had a car burn a drop oil since my 1986 Mazda 626 and that was after 250k miles.

Re: Hemi oil cosumption
Mine burns also, there was a thread post awhile back about this and someone found a disclaimer in a manual(?) stating that this is normal for the engines. Chryslers way out i guess

Re: Hemi oil cosumption
My V8 lost a bit of oil initially, but hasn't lost a drop in 20,000 miles or so. Unlike my 5.7L / 350 Cheby POS that went though oil and then coolant, which both were considered normal by the Cheby folks.... not that I'm at all bitter.

Re: Hemi oil cosumption
I had a 2010 Town and Country with the 3.8 V6 that did the same thing. Dealer said it was normal. They did put dye in the oil to see if it was leaking anywhere, but i got rid of it before I could take it back to get checked. Oh well, someone elses problem now.

I had a 2010 town and country with a 3.8 v6 that leaked oil everywhere. Dealer said previous owner must have know because there was dye in it for a leak test. Traded it for my jeep ^^
