Full Spare tire option has different tire on it.

I took a peek inside the spare tire area on my '12 GC and the tire on it was a Kumho brand while the jeep has Michelin latitude touring tires on them. Is this normal to have a completely different brand? I understand that the Kumho's are a bit cheaper compared to Michelin tires. Anyone has this the same way on their Jeeps?

thanks,

Its also a smaller steel wheel and narrower. The regular wheel/ tire doesn't fit in the storage compartment. Knowing this, the factory saved money and gave us cheap spare tires that we aren't going to use all that much anyway, and hopefully never.

kumho makes excellent tires! That kumho is probably better tha the overrated, over priced Michelin

I think the main reason it's a Kumho is that the tire is an odd size 245/65/R18. It's not as wide as the regular tires (probably so it can fit in the well.)

When I was getting ready to take delivery of my Summit, I knew that the supplied Latitudes were not off-road tires (even though I was getting the Off-Road package ) so I started researching replacements. I even considered replacing the spare, that's when I found out it was a different size. Kumho is the only company that I found that made that size of tire.

It's definitely full size (as in diameter). It's fine in a pinch. I had swapped out my tires to something a little taller (265/65/18) and even swapped out the spare to the same size wheel and tire. It's tight, but it fits!

Anyone consider putting their spare on and then the regular wheel in the spare tire well and seeing if it fits in there? Might be an easy way to find out if it does. In another post I read that some have been able to fit an aftermarket wheel/tire in their with only minor fitment issues.

I also wouldn't be so quick to dog Kumho tires...I've ran them on my prior 328i and my current M3 and they have help up and proven to be a better high performance summer tire than the Michelin PS2s they replaced. YMMV.

I take a Michelin over a Kumho any day. Better quality control, better design and better tread compounds. Would rather have Michelins on a M3 for daily use then Kumhos. I gladly pay the difference in price. But Kumhos do have better quality control then Badyears sorry Goodyears.
