Anyone Successfully Swap DRLs to LED??

Like the title says, has anyone with a WK2 SRT8 successfully swapped the halogen DRLs in the headlight housing to LEDs? If so post up some info.

Re: Anyone Successfully Swap DRLs to LED??

Time:
1-2 hours

Parts:

http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/...l/ed78410c.jpg
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/...l/87f65e90.jpg

Tools:
Soldering Iron
Solder
Electrical Tape
Wire Loom
Heat Shrink
Lighter
Wire Strippers
Diagonal Cutters
Digital Multimeter
Test Light
Wire

Steps:
First I just plugged the LED bulbs in and it was a no go. I rotated the bulbs in the socket and still a no go.

I checked to make sure the LED bulbs worked. Using some spare wire I connected to the + and - studs under the hood to test the bulbs. I discovered my + and - connections on the bulb noted by the red and black mark.

Now here is the problem. When testing the socket the + and - connection are in the wrong spot. Hence why my bulbs didn't work when I plugged them in.

The problem with the factory connecter is the positive wire is in the wrong port on the OEM plug. As seen in the pics below the white wire in the middle needs to be moved to the free port. I didn't have the tools to rearrange the wires so I bought new connectors.

Cut off the factory connector and strip the wire leads back. Grab the new connector and strip the brown and black wires back. Slide a piece of heat shrink over the stripped wires on the connector. Solder the BROWN from the connector to the OEM BLACK. Solder the BLACK from the connector to the OEM WHITE. Once done slide the heat shrink down and use a lighter to shrink. Extend the factory wire loom with new and use electrical tape on the ends.
NOTE: The OEM WHITE wire has a stripe on it, red or orange I don't remember. I'll just refer to it as the OEM WHITE wire.

Test the connection.

Repeat for the other side.

Final Product.

On WK2 SRT8 fog housings or what? I ordered the same kits I always have used from DDM Tuning, Digital Slim Balllast 35w kits. I'll be wiring them with a relay harness like usual.

Gotcha. There's a guy on the redsite, pClutch, that's running HID fogs on his WK2 SRT8 IIRC. I haven't heard anything bad yet... But he doesn't post a whole lot. I'm thinking they should be good to go. Plus they should look bad ass with the projector fogs on the WK2 SRT8.

yep...theyll look killer. I have the Xenondepot 5000K D1S bulbs and they are the tits.....but my stock fogs suck! The nonSRt usues some sort of gay bulb...H16 or something like that. I want to do like my 06 Jeep with 5000K d1s and 4300K fogs

The WK2 SRT8 uses H11s for the fogs. I swapped them early on to these. The OEM are way yellow! These actually match pretty good to the OEM Bi-Xenon. In my above pics these are the bulbs in the fogs until the HIDs go in.

this is so interesting mongoose i love ur work seems nice and tidy, but for the mean time im angry that expat SRT's are made with no options to light up the front fogs and the DRL's as well as the normal head lamps.

if i did i would so change those.
