Your Opinion Please - Trade in 2011 Overland

Guys,

Your expert opinion is appreciated. Today the Dealer offered $35K for my 2011 Overland V8 4WD (12,480 miles) if I pull the trigger with a new 2012 Summit V8 4WD (Window Sticker price $50K) they are offering the summit at $43K.

Is this a good trade?

Depending on options, it doesn't sound too terribly bad. It's not amazingly good either, but the real question is if you're happy with it.

Out of curiosity, why are you trading from one to the other, as it sounds like they're going to be very similar vehicles?

I had several complaints with my WK2. I am almost out of Jeep Brand, I am thinking in sale it. In fact right now the WK2 is in service for A/C issue.

Thanks for your response.

I would wait another 8to10 months and trade in for the 2014 model year which will have all the mid cycle changes on it and will be 2 years newer.

I was thinking in that option too. but my only concern is the trade value.
Do you think that can drop from $35k to $30k in 10 months?. I expect do in 10 month 8k miles.:o

No I dont think so. You took the biggest hit in trade value the second you drove off the lot and made it a "used" car. At most you would lose $1000 but I even doubt that.

So it will cost you $8000 for a one year newer vehicle.

Assume a 0% interest rate. $8000/ 12 = $667/ month.

Assume your existing vehicle was $40k and 60 month loan period, again at 0%, for $667/ month.

Based on that analysis, you are breaking even. But you're getting a more expensive vehicle, and it's one year newer, so he's offering you a great deal.

OTOH it looks like GC sales are up 40% over last May but is being outsold by the Wrangler (droptop season ?). CJF is doing very well, GM is also showing gains but in the 10-20% range. Even so it is important to remember that Chevrolet alone sold 70% more cars than all of CJF. Still CJF's increase % is nearly double that of the industry average. Must be doing something right.

Thanks guys ,

I will stressing the deal even more. I ask for $44K all included (Tax, Licence Fee, etc). I paid for the 2011 $45k (full cost) and I am taking a $12K hit If I do the deal in the current condition offered. for the "same" GC.

If a new model will be released in 1 year sounds good to wait.

I let you know the results.

Yes indeed. Although if he bought a Wrangler.....dealers in Chicago sell used base-Wranglers for more than new ones.
