Mirro caps removal

Anyone has removed mirror caps in one piece?

I would like to paint them black.

very easy....push the mirror all the way towards the inside. Pull on the outside edge to pop the glass off. Remove the wires. Then push the entire assembly so that it folds and remove the screw at the fold. You can look inside and see the 4 tabs...pop the 4 tabs to release the cover.

Scott's instructions are perfect. I've done this. Here's the official instructions but you probably won't need them since Scott answered already. http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82212218.pdf Don't disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

I think I have read the answer to this before, but can any of the mirror caps be bought seperately or do you have to buy the entire mirror? I wouldn't mud having a painted set and keep my chrome ones so I can swap as my mood changes lol

I haven't actually done it, but I think the way to go would be to buy the MOPAR chrome caps from JustforJeeps and have your existing chrome caps painted (figuring they're a little nicked up, as mine are, and the paint would remedy that).

The caps are not available without buying the whole assembly. Like was stated above, you can get the chrome caps from justforjeeps and then paint one set.

Also, here's a little basic info when removing the caps. Popping off the mirrors feels like you are going to break them. You won't. Just do as was said above. Tilt the mirror all the way toward the window and then pry it off. It will pop. The screw that needs to be removed is so you can access two of the tabs. Once the screw is removed, you'll pull the assembly off slightly to access those tabs. Once the cover is removed, you can screw the assembly back on and push the mirrors back in. The caps just need to be popped back in when ready. You can drive around capless if you're worried about down time on painting the mirrors.

just an FYI I put up a even trade offer to anyone with a set of mint mineral grey mirror caps for my new 2012 chrome caps off my Overland. See the for sale section for details.
