Is this normal?? or an issue??

So it was humid as heck on the drive home from the racetrack last night, as a result I had my A/C on, working great, I notice the windshield getting a little moisture on it so I turn the mode selector to defrost, in a minute or so I notice the air is not as cold blowing out of the defroster as the rest of the vents, I experiment with the selector and A/C is very cold out of all vents, even the defroster vent in the mixed modes, but on full defrost it is not as cold, I am actually thinking this is normal and I never noticed it before. Any of you guys can confirm your WK acts the same or differently?? I do have the dual zone climate control system.

PS- I did just get some of the mode doors changed, but everything is fine in all modes, just full defrost temp not as cold as all the other modes.

im gonna say since defrost is trying to melt ice and snow and clear fogging being super cold would be counterproductive. if the air coming out of the def. was cold as the air coming out of the vents the condensation on the windshield would have gotten worse not better. the condensation was caused by the humidity outside condensing on the cool windshield, which is caused by the little bit of,air leakage that goes thru the defroster normally. pretty common on humid nights. in our semi some nights i have to put a piece of material over the def. outlet to prevent the windshield from condensing

That is my thinking exactly, it would fog the windows worse, the Jeep engineers knew that and will not let it happen.

I agree. They run the A/C a bit in defrost to dehumidify the air. How much it is run I don't know. Mine does the same thing. Seems like they could seal the defrost vents off a bit better when you are running the A/C so that doesn't happen. Just my .02!!

Gonna piggyback on a similar thread even though I don't have the same exact problem...

I do a lot of city stop and go so when it is not so hot out I try to not use the AC to help the MPGs. In doing so, I've recently noticed:

Coldest temp setting, AC ON, face vent setting = cold air (expected)
Coldest temp setting, AC OFF, face vent setting = not as cold, muggy air (expected)

Coldest temp setting, AC OFF, defrost setting = cold air as if AC ON (?)

Is this how it is for others? Note the air comes out of the vents as it should based on setting, but the temp is freezing on defrost setting even when AC button off.

As far as I know the defrost setting turns on the compressor. This is true for all cars not only the G.C.

So actually by driving around with defrost setting and AC off, I'm not doing myself any favors. Bummer, thanks.
