My push to start button no longer starts my JGC after picking it up from the sound sh

My push to start button no longer starts my 2012 JGC Laredo 4x4 after picking it up from the sound shop today.
I had an aftermarket sub and amp installed today and when I picked it up they told me to take it to the dealer to reprogram the button. They said it was because they disconnected the battery for an extended period of time. The fob locks and unlocks it..the remote start works.(only when the button is in) but I have to remove the button upon entry and insert the fob afterwards to get it going because pushing the button does nothing. Additionally it will no longer unlock with the keyless entry (touching the handle) So now the button is just sitting in my arm rest and I've been placing the fob in the ignition and turning it.
Is there some sort of reset I could do w/o going to the dealer? Is it possible the shop inadverdently did something? Other than that everything else seems fine. :(

Re: My push to start button no longer starts my JGC after picking it up from the soun

Here is the thing, there really isnt anything to program on the push start button as far as I know. I am going to say that most likely the shop screwed something up and to cover their butts said something just needs to be re-programmed (which IMO is BS). Then the next problem comes up. A dealership will not cover something that some aftermarket stereo shop screwed up so your warranty is going to be useless and any work they do will come right out of your pocket.
What I would do in this case is talk to the shop and explain that if they did actually break something and repairs are required then they need to be 100% liable for the costs at the dealership. If it is a simple reprogramming then you might need to eat that cost, but again im not sure of what would need to be re-programmed. Maybe call the dealership and ask if there is any re-programming required when the battery is disconnected for any extended period of time.

Unfortunately these are the kind of things you gotta be careful for anytime you take your car somewhere. Newer vehicles are very complex and it doesnt take much to mess something up. I personally do not take my car anywhere except a dealership and even thats as a last resort. Keep us up to date on what happens, but do not let that shop get away with breaking your car and not having to pay for it (if thats truely the case).

Re: My push to start button no longer starts my JGC after picking it up from the soun

So I made it to the dealer today...and as a few responses mentioned, maybe the shop was the culprit. The vehicle code that came up was for an antennae failure. Apparently the vehicle has 4 of them (2 in each of the front doors, 1 in the rear of the vehicle, and 1 up front. In any case, there was insufficient time to diagnose where or what the ultimate problem was...ie. disconnection, failure of the component or something else. (I went in w/o an appt close to the end of the day.) So i took the vehicle with a future appt to return to get to the root of it. I then drove straight to the shop that did the install and informed them of the situation since the warranty wouldn't ultimately cover it being there was an aftermarket component installed. They (the audio shop) want an opportunity to check the work to see if they "inadverdently" failed to reconnect a wire. More than likely the one they used for the remote turn on. So, since they are gonna pay regardless I figured I'd give them a shot to redeem themselves. Any thoughts...opinions?

There was another post on here a few months ago where someone had something done in the rear cargo area of the jeep and after they were done the push button start did not work. I don't remember if it was a sub being installed or what. I think in that case they found it to be a wireless control unit that somehow got damaged and had to be replaced. This is the problem with having one of these aftermarket shops work on it. Now you could be caught in the middle of the shop saying its not anything they did and the dealer saying yes it is. Seeing as you did not have a problem before taking it in clearly it seems to be something the audio shop did. I would give them one shot to correct it and then have the dealer do the repair and bill the shop. I would not let the audio shop do alot of work on it trying to correct it.

Had similar problem after an auto electrician had fitted electric trailer brakes. Jeep claimed that they found a loose connection for a rear antenna and fixed the problem gratis. Of course the auto electrician says that he could not have possibly caused it. Everything has
worked since, 24000 km.

Re: My push to start button no longer starts my JGC after picking it up from the soun

Well I'm hoping it's just a connection that was left undone by mistake. I was looking at a thread that listed all of the trouble codes for the vehicle and there were only 4 related to antenae issues. 2 satellite radio codes(my satellite radio is operable) 1 gps related code (also operable) and 1 audio antenna code for being disconnected or unconnected..(as it reads). So ..since most often the antenna is used as a remote turn on wire for aftermarket amps...I'm hoping its a simple reconnect like one of the guys mentioned above. Crossing my fingers. I'll be taking it to the audio shop on monday and I'll keep you guys posted.

They have not reconnected the rear antenna, it is just in front of the stricker for the rear hatch, if you undo and remove the rear tie down hooks and lift up the trim you will see a blue wire with a push on connector the antenna is on the trim just plug the wire back in and all should be good

Forgive me for sounding like such a newb...but do you mean in one of the panels in the rear(like the passenger side where the stock sub is mounted or the drivers side.) Or did you mean on the inside of the life gate? Not familiar with the "stricker" term. Do you mean on the interior side of the rear chrome trim that has the button? (on the life gate). Sounds easy enough. I just wanna get out there and fix this. Also...should I disconnect the battery before making the connection. Thanks for the info

Behind the spare wheel moulding there is a small sensor below the catch of the tailgate, remove the tie downs and lift the cover as yoda42 explained. The only reason i know this is because i had mine removed and the remote didn't work. re checked and found the wire not connected. plugged it in and all good.:):)

"Stricker" might translate to striker in USA speak.
