6x9 Doors Speakers ?

Hello,

I just upgraded my dash speakers in my stock stereo system and what a difference (Kicker DS35). "WOW". Louder, more base, more tweeter...everything. Very impressed.

Now I am looking at upgrading the 6x9 doors speakers.

I know there are a lot of great 6x9 speakers out there but the issue seems to be the "mounting depth" limitation of 3 1/16" deep max.

All the 6x9's I see seem to be 3 3/4" or deeper.

So, my question is: do I simply add a 1/2 ' or 1/4' spacer/raiser to lower the depth? And if I do, will the speaker then be pushing on the plastic door panel?

Secondly, the dash speakers were easy. 2 wires that went to 2 terminals on the speakers.

Are the door speakers more complicated? Is there like, 8 colored wires going into a connector that I have to cut off and then manually color match each wire?

Anybody upgrade their stock stereo system door speakers with speakers that fit? I am open to any recomendations. I would prefer 3 way and possibly 2 ohms for more output, but I will take you're advice.

Thanks.

Infinity reference series fit. I put in Boston SE's, but my window track clips it a bit every time I roll up/down. I'm installing washers as spacers in the near future.

See my thread "Fitting Infinty Kappa 6x9 in the front doors". I have pics and all that shows how you overcome the mounting depth problem.

Infiniti's are perfect fit, reasonably priced if you shop around and sound amazing

I converted both my door speakers to 6.5 seems to be more options. All you need is a 10 dollar plastic mounting adapter.

True, but I like te extra mid sound given from te 6x9's

Doing a 6.5 conversion up front would allow you to do a component setup in the front and dash. But there again, the extra mid-high sound given by the 3.5's is delicious.

I don't regret anything about goin with infiniti's. Soun is great and price is even greater!

Nice! Where did you mount the tweeter?

Used a hole saw and cut out small two inch holes in the door panel for them to mount. They are in the triangle piece directly opposite the mirror.

Having a mid-woofer in the door, a tweeter in the sail panel, and a mid-range/tweeter in the front dash, with the right crossover points sounds absoultely fantastic. Just pure sonic nirvana:D I was going to do a set-up like that, but ran out of time due to the deployment. When I get back, I am might tackle it then. Hats off to you, not many go that way, but boy it really is worth the effort:thumbsup:

If you check my audio build thread it shows the whole system and how i did it. I really wanted to do something different, something i havent really seen too much of so i picked the components from scratch. I tested it on some really beautiful classical music without the sub hooked up and it sounded like i died and went to heaven! :P
