Sports Mode?

Hey guys,
I was just wondering what sports mode actually does. We have the v6 and I have swapped between auto and sport and dont really notice a difference...

Re: Sports Mode?

Sport – Dry weather, on-road calibration. Only available
in 4WD High range. Performance based tuning
that provides a rear wheel drive feel but with improved
handling and acceleration over a two-wheel
drive vehicle. The Electronic Stability Control will set
to allow more driver control of vehicle while maintaining
safe handling controls. The vehicle will lower (if
equipped with Air Suspension) to Aero Mode in High
Range. 4WD Low is not available in SPORT mode, if
4WD Low is selected the Selec-Terrain™ will automatically
switch back to AUTO.

Re: Sports Mode?

Sport mode is pretty nice, my only complaints about it is 4th gear hangs until like 48mph which drives me nuts especially with 45mph speed limit being common. So unless you hit 48mph the rpm's hang pretty high. Very annoying!
I also wish the traction control light did not stay illuminated. Last but not least, the shift points still suck! I love my Overland, but I assume all so Jeep could just claim another MPG on the window sticker we have to deal with a Jeep that shifts at horrible points.

Does any one know if you can lock it into 'Sports Mode', so you don't have to select it every time your start out?

I don't like the traction control light either and I still can't get used to the down shift at 40 mph on De-accelleration ... ??? Very annoying indeed.

My 2011 doesn't hang in 4th like that, and I love the downshift as is saves brakes at the perhaps, albeit small, expense of transmission clutches. Oh wait, is this a V6 thread?

Hi everyone
new to forum and fromAustralia.Have new Overland and trying to understand sports mode /function. When in sports mode my traction control OFF is highlighted but the other traction control light comes on when starting but seems to operate as normal.
Cant find anything in the manual that describes this.
From your experience is this normal having traction control off light illuminated when in sports mode

thanks
regards
Wayne

The tc light is on but emergency active handling is still on.. Tame for a sprot mode.

I didnt think the sprt mode or any mode changed tranny settings at all. Ive never read this and cannot feel this in my v8 overland. Doesnt change suspension either except ht... Pretty much pointless, really... But i still play with it sometimes.

The trans in all settings seems to allow near redline shift points when driving really hard. But not just in spfort mode.

I also dont care for the manual shifting as it only prevents upshifts, it cant shift up early.

The shifting is different in sports mode. Although you may feel that when you gun and redline in regular mode, less spirited and more normal driving you can feel the higher rpm before the shift.

With a QL suspension she also lowers the front and back down some.

You may have something wrong with your unit, but the slightly higher shift points (check your tac in relation to shift points) doesn't feel a whole lot different, but is noticeable. Sport provides better economy in city type driving.

The switch to full time aero mode is much more noticeable, the front lowers quite a bit (rear some).
