WK trail users

Anyone have this happen to your WK?

This is in the driver door frame. I do tend to 3 wheel a bit - so I put some stress on the subframe. I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse!

That looks like some serious stress.

I have seen some of your pictures though and you do seem to go pretty hard. So not as surprised about the stress. Love the build btw.

DUDE! Is that seriously from frame twist? It didn't get whacked or anything else? I may have to move the roll cage higher up on my list!!!

RedRocker 06-25-2012 10:58 PM

I think it's from too much 3 and 2 wheeling. My style is very controlled, not a lot of speed, the stress is not from hard hits. The subframe underneath that area is straight, there's some scrapes on the rock rails, but no evidence of a heavy hit. I think it's just stress from getting crossed up on obstacles like the Golden Crack. I didn't see any other (non-stock) bends.

Really weird that's the only stress evidence I can see.

Man that sounds like most of the wheeling I do! I need to start looking into strengthening this unibody stat!

WHOA! That is not good! I just had to go and check mine, and not even a stress mark in the paint. How did you do that!!!! Are the doors still opening and closing ok?

Ive spent at least half of my wheeling on 2 wheels, so its going to be something ill have to keep a close eye on.

No cages for me while is still registered for me down here Nathan, would block the curtain airbags :-(.

Actually on reflection, i have the solution.

LA rear, and SFA LA front pro rock D44.

Flex issues solved.

Well Dave lucky for me I don't have curtain air bags. And you know that even after those mods you will still stress the frame. With a better suspension that just means you can wheel harder trails, which you know you would do :D

RedRocker 06-26-2012 11:35 PM

I'm now thinking this was due to an impact. I ran Wheeler Lake on Sunday and hit a large rock with my front suspension. The hit was so hard, at round 5 mph, that it stopped forward momentum (and scared the crap out of me)! The suspension took the hit well (not that I want to ever try that again), but the force had to go somewhere - I think that force found a weak spot in front of my driver's side B pillar.
