Re: Over drive was off.....
The Jeep is not going to redline with the overdrive turned off at speeds of 45 mph. That will not hurt anything at all.

Re: Over drive was off.....
I regularly switch O/D off when I want drive the Jeep more aggressively. Been at speeds above 100 mph before with it off without any problems at all, as it doesn't go into 5th gear the revs are naturally higher...

Really not sure why yours would react so badly with o/d off.

Re: Over drive was off.....
im sorry guys i forgot to mention the car was not in Drive position.

(it sort of made sense when i said " i told her to let go the gas and i shifted it back in DRIVE")

i left out that she had the car in shift position 2 instead of Drive.

now does this make more sense. sorry i was in sort of rush this morning when i posted this....

so the car was in shift 2 not regular day to day Drive. and the OD was off.

my engine roared like no tomorrow..... any ideas?

cheers to everyone!

Re: Over drive was off.....
Ah got ya now....

Think 80 is nearing the rev limiter for 2nd gear IIRC - I don't use 1st and 2nd gears often. I certainly wouldn't hold it at that speed for long as it'd be revving its nuts off as you said.

Unsure as to what damage you could have done though... Sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in shortly.

Re: Over drive was off.....
Sorry, I'm fairly new to Jeep ownership, but from what I've read, doesn't the Wj have an adaptive gearbox that almost sets itself to your style of driving? Perhaps it's just adapting to being "thrashed"? I believe disconnecting the battery for more than 10 minutes puts the box back into learning mode (I may be wrong on this... please don't quote me) then driving as you normally do will get the box working as you wish.

Re: Over drive was off.....
I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but you obviously have no idea about anything mechanical, therefore the best bet for you and your Jeep would be to take it for an inspection by a mechanic. Your description was virtually unreadable to this Aussie, but it seems she accidently left it in 2 instaed of selecting Drive. The Jeep has a rev limiter so it really cannot of hurt anything. Not that it's good for it, but it shouldn't hurt it.
Are you certain when you clicked it back into drive you didn't accidwently do into Reverse for a second? Are you suuuuure?
Regardless, get someone trained to check it out. Won't cost much if anything, and it'll stop you getting a bum steer by guys saying stuff they have no idea about.

Re: Over drive was off.....
its not harsh at all. its pretty blunt but i do appreciate it though. im not technically sound with car vocabulary, thats a given but i managed to get my brief description across to martyp up there. i am certain i didnt come near REVERSE, positive of that one. i just joined a jeep forum to learn about these types of problems, issues, things etc- so any information that all of you provided raised a brow of mine in a good way. last week i scheduled my jeep to go into dealer care for a second recall on heated seats and i guess ill just see what they have to say with out me actually telling them what had happened. im guessing if i told them the actual truth, id would then be denied coverage and thus be raped for any service they would provide.

now i must say when i first bought this jeep all the way up until last night cruising at speeds of 75-100 were effortless and quite comfortable despite the speeds traveling at. it never shook or vibrated or acted remotely weird at any speed i took it on. now last night dramma happens and now im guessing what went wrong.

im still open to any other ideas or things etc.

cheers again.

Re: Over drive was off.....
yea so i spoke to the jeep guys over at the dealership, i set up a appointment with the service dept for my heated seats. while im there i will ask them about the car acting weird at 75- and above...

at first this is what i thought it was in a limp mode but not sure at all..

hell- i even winged it and tried changing the gears going forward and backwards a bunch of times hoping something would just click back into place. using P, R, D,2,1*
but still the same.

again the issue is really at speeds of 75 and above.

those of you who own/owned this Wj- you know how easy and effortless the jeep made it moves at speeds of 75 and above- LIKE BUTTER> now its like cottage cheese! haha- a lil laughter to vent off some steam...

cheers everyone!

Re: Over drive was off.....
i am a tech and it sounds like you might have damaged the shift modulator in the trans not hard to change but this can happen when you put it in to drive from a high rmp
