check elec brake system message and traction control and abs light on

hey guys i havent posted in awhile but i'm in great need of some help. the other day i had a check elec brake system message pop up. Also traction control light and abs light. I have been real busy and i didnt notice anything odd in the way it was acting so i hadnt got around to checking it out. THen today on the way home from work i stop at a store and notice the parking brake light had popped on too. I tried to get it off but couldnt so i just pull out and then it wouldnt shift gears. I stopped and tried to gear down manually to see if it would let me shift up like that but it wouldnt. Then i noticed the check engine light had popped up. I shut it off for a few minutes and when i started it up it let me down shift to first. I pull out and went to third but it wouldnt let me shift past that. So i drove it home like that. I am supposed to work tomorrow so please help me guys. tell me this is something i can fix, cause i do not have the money right now to just take it to the dealership. please help..

could be as simple as a dying battery or more likely the computer needs to be flashed. since you got a check engine light, what codes can your pull up?

You dont need a code reader, do the key dance

Retrieving codes (2005-2010 Grand Cherokee):

Insert and turn the ignition key from "Off" to "On" three times, moderately fast and without pausing ("ON" is when the digital odometer displays):

Tip: use the "count to 5" method, where "1" is the first "On":

Off > On > Off > On > Off > On
***0******1*******2*******3*******4*******5

0 - Insert key (Off)
1 - On
2 - Off
3 - On
4 - Off
5 - On

At the third "On" the odometer display will read "DTC REPORT" and list the codes. If no codes are present the message "Done" will appear.

Take it easy buddy!

The people here are very willing to help you out, but I would suggest you give more than an hour or two (especially early in the morning) for people to respond.

All models should allow you to pull the codes using the key dance. It takes a bit of practice to get the timing right, but it will work. You also have to cycle between 'off' and 'on' quite a bit quicker than you would expect.

I would give it a few more tries to see if you can get the timing right.

Once you get the code, people may be able to provide a little more guidance as to what is wrong.

ok sir i'll keep your advice in mind. So i got the codes at autozone. po700 and po501. one says ecm received a signal that the transaxle control module has a fault. the other says the ecm has detected a fault in the vehicle speed sensor circuit. if anyone could just give me a starting point on what to try first it would be greatly appreciated. by the way dr., i meant no disrespect to anyone or wasnt meaning to sound pushy or anything. i think it was just desperation u detected. sorry everyone.

No worries, it was just a bit of advice to make sure you get the best help possible.

The P0700 is a generic tans code, that a dealer's StarScan tool will be able to get more information out of. That being said, it can be thrown by the transmission receiving a low-voltage.

The P0501, I believe, is directly related to the wheel-speed sensor. These are relatively cheap and easy to replace.

I would try the orginal suggestion of having the battery tested and/or swapped out with a known good one. As was mentioned earlier, this could be caused by a battery starting to fail.

When was the battery last replaced?

The WK is quite sensitive to failing batteries and it can result in all sorts of issues.

If it was just one issue or the other, I would suspect the individual components, but with both issues coming up at the same time, I would lean towards a common cause (like a low battery voltage).

Hopefully others can add their opinions as well.

Good luck, and let us know how things progress.
