Finally........... painted side claddings

After a very long deliberation of "should I paint or not" the side claddings due to fading issue and tiger stripes every time it rains..... I finally did it.

old grey cladding:

new paint: Krylon Satin Black

I really like the result, no more constant wiping of mothers back to black or some kind of restorer that washes off when it rains.
Paints been on for almost 2 weeks now, went to a car wash the 4th day after it was done and no issues.

Rocker panel will be next, waiting on them clips from flea-bay to arrive....

Looking good  amazing how that freshly painted cladding brings out the color of your Jeep vs how much the tired gray cladding detracted from it.

Maybe a dumb question, but here goes.... Did you tape those off from the steel and paint em, or remove the cladding panels. If removed, How?
Thanks, looks sweet, i would like to do something similar.

Taped the claddings, didn't want to risk breaking the clips behind it. It is doable but it takes time. I did however took the front bumper off.

If you really want to remove the claddings, you have to move the door panel to have access to the clips, the bottom part is attached with a double sided tape. Some did it without removing the door panel, but as mentioned above, there's a risk of breaking the clips in the process.

Door handles and mirrors crossed my mind when I was waxing the jeep yesterday, any tips in removing handles once door panel is off?

I think I swirled it once or twice when I was new in here, then I realized, WTF am I doing? LoL....

honestly when i did my xj i like you only did what looked the shittyest the flares around the fenders, the bumper ends, and the rub strips(door guards) that run from behind the front fender to the front of the rear fender since it took me like 3 or 4 hours of prep, masking, sanding, etc. i chose to get drunk afterwards and sit out in the garage and admire my work......well it was than that i realised crap i shoulda done the door handles, mirrors, eyebrow above the license plate, and lastly the metal bumpers (with paint made for plastic)

but i didnt remove anything i just did a real good job of masking, like instead of trying to get the tape in the exact spot where i needed it i just slopped the tape on and cut it off with a razorblade to follow to contours of the door handle
anyways it came out great no way you can tell, even the bumper, so were it me i wouldnt take anything off, just do a real good job at masking it. and not getting drunk might help too:thumbsup:
