Towing a camper with my 3.7 v6

I'm looking to tow a 30 foot pop-up camper that is around 3,500 lbs with my Jeep. I have v6 and added the oem trailer hitch. Anyone tow anything that size with their v6?

I'm not certain, but I think the 3.7 can either come with or without aux. cooling. If you had to install the hitch yourself it may noth have the extra cooling - in which case I recall it being limited to 2,000 lbs or something like that. You may want to look into adding a transmission cooler if that's the case.

In any event is the 3,500 lbs. the weight of the trailer or is that with it loaded? In either scenario, I think you are really going to notice the weight back there!

I haven't heard of anyone towing that much with the 3.7, but I'm sure it's been done...

Thanks. I checked and the trailer is around 3,000 lbs not loaded. I checked and don't have the tow package, which probably would have included the transmission cooler. Maybe should rethink the idea....

You will be fine. I tow about 3k in jetskis and gear every weekend over the summer. This doesn't include the wife and kids etc etc. The tranny will have no issues towing that weight. It's built for considerably more abuse than that.
The issue will be the lack of good torque in the lower rpm's at highway speed.
Shift it from D to 4 and let it lock up in 4th. The motor will have better power on the highway and keep the revs around 2500. You'll notice if you let it go to OD it will downshift a LOT to maintain speed.
Brake early and tow safe...

Make dure you have a load distributing hitch setup. Ive also added firestone ride rite leveling air bags. The are easy to install and help keep it from dropping in the rear.

Thanks for the input. I am going to give it a shoot next weekend. Appreciate the info.

I think your issue is going to be load control. I'd imagine the camper is like a sail in the wind and no fun at all on a windy day.
While the wk will tow it, a full size would tow it better.....
