Thinking about a 2012 with 23k miles on it.

I am looking at a 2012 Limited with 23k miles on it. I know that is a lot of miles for being less than 1 year old and wanted to get some other opinions on if its a good deal or not. It is a V6 4x4 pretty much loaded with everything. I should be able to get it right at $35k. KBB says its worth $38k. How long until I will need new tires? I had one dealership tell me I should not buy a 12 with that many miles because it has been rode hard. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You can do a Carfax, but it is likely a former rental fleet or lease with that many miles. That is a little steep, considering the original sticker price would have been in the $40-41K range depending upon options - and that 2/3'rds of the 3/36 warranty is used up. You should be able to buy a brand new one for not much more. You will higher % for a used vs a new vehicle loan. It would need to be much closer to $31-32K for me to even consider it. And then only after I had the dealer run a Carfax to verify there are no issues and check the history on it. If it needs tires after only 23K miles, that is an issue itself. The original tires should be good for 50K miles or better. If it really needs tires, the dealer should throw them into the deal or give you some more off the price. Here are a few near me, note the 1st is a loaded Limited with Hemi for not much more and many less miles. The 2nd is comparable with 3.6L and the last is a new one. Best luck.

For comparison, price out a new one, then go on-line to get your best price. If the best price wasn't a local dealer, hit the local guys up for a price-match or a better price/freebies. I purchased my 2012 Overland for just under $36K new (and I don't know how to "haggle").

Edit: We posted at the same time... What he said (and said it better)!

For a little more you could have a brand new limited with no miles and full warranty, with 23k on a 2012 it seems like it was driven hard and put up wet, id pass on it.

Lol 35K for a used 2012 with 23,000 miles??? You can get a brand new one with zero miles for that price. So no, that's a horrible price IMO

I'd walk for sure. I got $5500 off sticker, new. Many get more. Used prices are near an all-time high. It rarely pays to buy slightly used. It does depend on the vehicle, but that's typically the case with mainstream vehicles. That, and you get better financing/incentives when purchasing new.

Sounds too expensive.

Also test drive the crap outta that rig! make sure there is no strange nosies from the suspension etc etc

If its got the quadralift test the crap out of it not just once or twice. make sure you find some uneven roads to ride bumps over to hear and feel the suspension.

I guess I'll play into the other side of the coin.

I wouldn't be too worried about the mileage and the fact that it's relatively new. It's probable that a vehicle like that was used in some sort of commuting aspect, likely it was owned by a salesman or something. Some of our sales guys have been known to log 1k miles or more in a week taking trips out to client sites. A lot of their cars are very clean too, they just rack up mileage for work.

Pricewise, it will really come down to what options are on it, and the rest of the deal. If they're going to give you the offer on your trade you like, then there's no harm in buying that vehicle.

You can always chase a better deal. If you get one new at invoice, it's probable you could have found one that was under invoice and would give you more on your trade. At some point you have to say that the deal is good enough for you to be happy with, and pull the trigger, not sweating trivial amounts of money overall.

Most of these are not selling at or below invoice. A disproportionately large group of owners here did get them several thousand off MSRP, but that is not the norm. It definitely doesn't hurt to check around to see if you could get what you want new for less or the same, but sometimes there is a premium for getting exactly what you want.

^ Valid points.

Does it come with any packages (Off-Road, towing, etc)? That will affect the value. If you do price compare to new, include any packages....

Post a picture of the window sticker or anything listing options?

For sure is a good running car. It has a lot of miles in a year so I guess did not spent a day in the shop......

Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up buying it. We got a great deal and it really had everything we wanted. V6, Cooled Seats, Moon Roof, 4X4, the exact color just about everything is perfect. Thanks again! I will be posting pics soon.
