Nice New Dent
3 Attachment(s)
So I was at the mall the other day and it was sort of windy, when I got back to my car I noticed a nice huge dent on my driver side quarter panel. In the moment you would of thought someone died because I was pretty pissed! There was some white paint on my car and of course the car next to me was silver o I assumed the persons car that hit me drove off and re-parked somewhere else (yes, NO note left). Anyways, a security guard is walking by and I asked if these dome looking things that were right across from my car were cameras and if I could see the footage to see who hit my car. He simply responded: "I'm technically not supposed to tell people but those are dummy cameras , !

I went to a body shop and they quoted me $675 because its right on the body line and they need to repaint and blend into my door.... I feel this is a little steep and I REALLY don't want to repaint but I need it fixed and done right! I also called some mobile dent removal guy and he was like well I'll charge you $165 to try dent less paint removal but I think I can only get it to 85-95%.....

I'll be shopping around a little more.

I will go with the Dent Pro Guy. They do work magic.

Re: Nice New Dent
I had them remove a dent in a rear quarter panel next to a wheel-well on another vehicle. There was a body-line/ridge there as well. It was perfect!

If it is only 95% complete, at least you can hold out until the body shop can repair/replace the panel (the PDR guys in my area make house-calls)....

Re: Nice New Dent
That's too bad. Just a couple of inches too high up.

Re: Nice New Dent
Sorry to see that. It looks like the paint was not damaged much at all. I would look into a pro that could "pop out" that dent without painting. If the paint is damaged after popping it out, you can always get it painted. And based on my past experience, I would not have the whole fender painted if they tell you they have to do that. It may not match the door perfectly. I've had that happen to me in the past and it annoyed me every time I looked at my vehicle. If needed I would have them paint the spot and blend the area right around the damaged area so you have the original paint on the rest of the fender. It will look great.

Ouch, sorry to see that. Doesnt that seem pretty high up to be from someone elses door or no? If that was infact from someones door that is one hell of a door ding!

At any rate like you and others have said if at all possible I would AVOID having that panel repainted. Not only does that hurt the value of the car if somethings been repainted, but chances are you are going to be able to tell its been painted. I would almost rather have a 95% repaired dent on a original painted door rather than a repainted panel.

Fek! That blows man. That was a nice hit too. pretty deep and high for a door ding.

I am fearing the day this happens to mine as well. Thats why I park as far away from civilization as I can at the malls.

I would try the paintless dent removal guy first not only for $ but its hard to match the paint and you willprobablt notice the difference even if others dont.

Re: Nice New Dent
I hate when that happens. I also try to park away from eveyone but of course when you come back to the car there is always someone that has to park right next to you even though theres a couple of hundred spots available. Please post pics after work is done. I have a small dent on the back passenger door and trying to figure out what is the best option.

Re: Nice New Dent
No ones door could have done that big of dent that high. It sucks people have so little repsect for others stuff.

I would check some different dentless repair services. I had to shop around but finally found a good one. The right guy can work wonders.

No way I'd go with the pop out go with that location. They guy even said he couldn't get it perfect.

Re: Nice New Dent
I'd try the PDR first and see how satisfied I was with the result. I had a difficult ding on the driver's door character line and PDR got it out about 90%. Nobody would ever notice it but me, of course I do. BUT, I think overall I'm happier than I would have been with a repaint. Is yours a straight black or is it metallic? The straight black can be fairly easy to match. Metallic...not so much.

I've also had PDR guys tell me that they only thought 90% and have it come out perfect. Good PDR guys are fanatcially detail oriented and won't do work they know you won't be satisfied with, they like to under promise and over-deliver.

Did the PDR guy see it? I wouldn't trust one who would quote it without seeing it first...

Re: Nice New Dent
Thanks for everyone's responses. I went to 3 different body shops today and only got a quote from one so far.... The one that gave me a quote right then and there was a place called Euro Collision (I was almost hesitant to go there knowing by the name I was going to get bent over) the quoted be $943. And of course my insurance deductible is $1000. One of the other places was the dealerships brand (Go) body shop... I told the lady I wanted to try and do PDR and she said she would call some guys and then call me back.

I really am debating with gambling with the first PDR guy! The paint doesn't appeared be cracked and I feel like there has to be a tool out there sort of like a pizza cutter but thicker edge where you could roll it in the body line from the inside and pop it out... No it wouldn't be 100% but if it's not really noticeable to others and barely noticeable to me then that might be alright.... At this point anything will look better then the dent alone.

I'm going to try and get the PDR guy out here this weekend. I will update with pics if he comes out.
