2 tries to start?

04 limited. other than the rare occasion it take 2 tries to start. On the second it starts normal and runs fine.
Note: It has been sitting since early 08 until a few days ago due to a wreck.

I don't have any ideas beyond changing the maintenance related items such as fuel filter, lubricants, and plugs. Perhaps that was already done.

I was going to start with the fuel filter and oil change so at least we are on the same track of thinking.

I6 or V8?

Re: 2 tries to start?

Could be that the pressure regulator in the fuel filter is not keeping the fuel rail under pressure after shutting down the engine. Just priming 2 times and then starting could confirm this.

By priming you mean cycling the key yes? I did that and it does seem to help.

Yes, sounds like a fuel pressure bleed-down. Cycling the pump twice generally can fix it.

I had this routinely on my 02 I6, and intermittently on my 04 V8 HO - I learned to turn the key to RUN (not start), let it do its chime while I buckle my seatbelt, then start. Seemed to fire up every time.

The dealer fixed my 02 under warranty but it was never quite right. I just learned to deal with it.
