PSA - Hail damage WK2's at Marino
Hello All, not sure if this is frowned upon but I wanted to share with any potential future JGC owners some of my luck. I picked up a Rugged Brown Pearl Summit V8 with hail damage at Marino JCD in Chicago yesterday, at a negotiated price of $41,500 + TTL. They have several hail damage cars in inventory still, I also checked out a black/black Overland V8 and a Winter Chill Pearl/Black Overland V8 both with hail damage. It didn't take a *huge* amount of haggling and was not an unpleasant experience, and I do not feel like we left there having paid more than what we should have. Below are my comments regarding some of the other vehicles I had the opportunity to check out while we were there, and hopefully will provide some insight for someone interested.
The damage on all three cars, including the one I purchased, was mostly on the hood and clearly noticeable from 3ft away. There are dozens of small dimples on the hood, very evident on the WCP. There was also scattered dimples along the upper door lines, and along the chrome accents around the windows. The roof and moonroof interestingly was not damaged visibly on any of the examples.
Given we were only interested in Overland V8's, we did not check out the V6's or Limited but I assume there are some hail damaged examples of those as well. MSRP on our JGC was $49k and change, so it seems there's substantial room for reduction and more importantly may be able to get you into a car you otherwise felt was out of your range. For reference, JC (Juan Carlos) was our salesperson and was about as helpful and consultative as you can reasonably expect from a salesperson. We were there for some follow-up today and while we didn't get exactly what we were looking for, JC was still helpful despite having customers in his office.
