Gracenote Updating

I picked up my 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland a couple of weeks ago and noticed that many of my CD's are not recognized by the Gracenote database. Has anyone successfully updated Gracenotes on the 730RHR unit?

Get used to it. Gracenote is always out of date for any CD's issued since the most recent revision. And it does not recognize MANY of my older CD's either (that show album art just fine on my PC, iPad and iPod).

Verify that you do not already have the latest Gracenote version before you try downloading the update from the provided link. You likely already have the latest version, unless your 2012 was an early build.

Personally, I have given up on album art. When it does display, the artwork is the size of a postage stamp anyway. I have photos of my grandkids displayed on the screen instead.

Thanks Tybalt...the link provided in the thread isn't valid any longer. Chances are that I already have a very up-to-date Gracenote database since I just took delivery a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for the info Justal13. The gracenote database in my former 2010 vehicle (Acura) had no problem identifying the album title, artist, and song titles on the very same CD's I'm loading in the Jeep. I'm not really interested in album art anyway, but it would be nice to have the important stuff loaded. The manual method of editing the Artist name, Album name, & song titles is a bit cumbersome.

I have found with mine that you are better pff putting the cd on your computer first n then on to a flash drive. Itunes will add the album art and related info for you. That way you go around gracenotes which is about a year old when the updates are released.

Yes, I ripped most of my CD's to mp3 format using the Chrylser and Gracenote recommended iTunes software. Results were:

220 CD's - All recognized by iTunes for music (Artist name, CD title, etc), but there was about 10% missing artwork. I was able to find all but 3 CD's by using the iTunes manual CD search and attach feature. This was approx 9 gb of music.

Loaded to a 16 gb Sandisk thumbdrive.

Tested on (2) desktop PC's, (3) different laptops (Dell, HP and ASUS), iPad (cloud download) and iPod (downloaded from PC). The CD's played and artwork displayed on all equally well.

Plugged thumbdrive into faceplate and armrest USB on 2012 GC with 430N. All CD's recognized, folders recognized. But no album art will display.

Tested several CD's by downloading directly to HDD. If the albums were released prior to the 430N Gracenote latest release date (April 2011), art will display. Anything more recent - forget about album art.

Downloaded 9gb from thumbdrive to HDD. The 430N did not follow the thumbdrive file folder format, and created it's own file folders. The 430N Gracenote software would not recognize several artists (Mary Chapin Carpenter, Zac Brown Band, Thompson Square, Rascal Flatts among others), approximately 50 albums (over 20%) were not recognized and over 1000 songs not recognized. The 430N created artist, album and song "UNKNOWN" folders and dumped all the recognized into those folders.

I also found approximately 20 albums that were mis-identified or in a genre "UNKNOWN" folder. These only took about 1/2 hour to manually fix.

I spend a few hours each week untangling this mess. I have manually entered all the album titles, all genres, all artists and am currently working on manually entering the titles of the approximately 700 songs remaining in the songs "UNKNOWN" folder.

All this technology is an awful lot of work. I figure I should have this completed just in time to trade for the refreshened 2014 GC. I am sure the new media centers are MUCH improved (yeah, right...).

I do really like my back-up camera. And overall I like not having to fuss with CD's anymore.
