Mileage and Air-Intake
I recently purchased a 2007 GC CRD with 45K on it. I'm struggling to get any decent mileage out of it. If I'm in traffic, I'm seeing numbers in the 17-18 and highway around 19-20. This seems really low. I put a K&N filter in, no improvement. Any suggestions to improve MPG?

I also noticed that the Air-intate is actually pulling air off the radiator, and not straight through the front grill. Why does it take the air after it bounces off the radiator?

Re: Mileage and Air-Intake
Alan, That mileage does seem low, but not that far off. If you are driving hard it could be accurate. The lowest I saw around town was about 19 before I installed my Custom Spooling Tune. A K&N filter won't help with mileage. With your low odometer mileage I would give the Jeep a once over. Make sure the fluids are fresh, the brakes are not dragging, intercooler hoses are not leaking. It could be a number of things. Check for DTC codes.

Re: Mileage and Air-Intake
My intake is facing the grill in front of the rad... maybe yours got turned around?

The intakes on these really aren't very good. Still waiting for an aftermarket one to come out. Not sure if it will ever happen though.

Are you going by the cluster or hand calculation? I know my mpg on the cluster is 2mpgs off from what I actually get. Mine has 95k on it and I get 20 in the city and 23 highway. To really get the numbers up there though I would do what was suggested and then look into getting a tune. I'm still trying to figure out if an air dog or something would help us out add much as it does on the other diesels out there. You could also look into water/Meth injection I know there is a company that has a kit for mpg.

Here's what I have logged since I bought the Jeep in Feb and put about 10I or so on it since then.

Re: Mileage and Air-Intake
I haven't seen any after market air intake for the 3.0 CRD only the K&N filter, and they don't help the mileage:(

mine has had 28 mpg on highway (8.5 L/ 100 km )and around 22.4 mpg (10.5 L/100 km) in average..

Re: Mileage and Air-Intake
I welded up my own intake tube for my CRD. I used 3" aluminum mandrel tubing. I have noticed improved mileage ~ .3 - .4 mpg, reduced turbo lag, quicker boost build, and a small more amount of intake sound. I used a amsoil dry filter for improved filtering and no oil in the MAF sensor issues.

I also removed the turbo resonator with a aluminum tubing setup. I noticed about the same improvements as with the intake tube.

Re: Mileage and Air-Intake
it's looking nice, I see you removed the recirculation of oil

have you done something special to fix the aluminum pipe to the turbo outlet to intercooler ?
Resonator is maintained in place with a clip and a screw in std ..
I'm asking because my resonator seems to be broken or cracked ...I have oil everywhere :(

Re: Mileage and Air-Intake
Thanks, getting rid of CCV gases is mod # 1 on the CRD.
Some cutting and grinding. I joined the aluminum pipe to the turbo outlet pipe with a silicone reducer. I joined to the intercooler with the stock coupler, I just cut the end off and used SS t-bolt clamps.

Thanks  I will try to have the same setup

Re: Mileage and Air-Intake
I have an 08 GC CRD. Installed a K&D air filter after I got it. Keep the heater plug in during cold weather. Mice went into the top of the filter and plugged the whole box up. Did wonders for my fuel mileage when I cleaned the box and filter.
